Longest science fiction story

The reason I think words as opposed to pages, is multiple pages of dialogue are fewer words than multiple pages of exposition. Doesn't really make a difference.
 
Oh, definitely words would give the most definitive answer, but how are you going to get all the words counts, especially for older books and series?
 
As of 2019 the Black Library's Horus Heresy series consists of 54 books.
 
54!! I think I gave up at 15.
i didn't like the series. i've trying to find because i knoe there's a syfy series with plus 100 volumes.. but hey you have always doctor who
 
The trouble with a big series like this is that it is not only a lot of commitment, but also quite daunting to start. I think a lot of US TV series suffer from the same issue.

The beauty of a franchise series of books, such as Star Trek is they are stand alone despite being set in the same universe.
 
Yeah, I was just wondering if anyone knew a single story arc stream of novels longer than that one.
