Fantasy Stories with Strong Compelling Characters.

@BAYLOR Have you come across the novellas she is also writing in her various worlds? There are several what Johanna and Antrig did next stories - avoiding spoilers here so not mentioning further details (one of them is the gloriously titled "Karate Masters from Outer Space"). You can buy them on Smashwords as well as Amazon. And several Darwath follow ons. If you look at the price per length they are on the more expensive side, but still usually at £5 down.

The Forgotten Beast of Eld by Patica McKillip Sybel the sorceress and her menagerie of incredible beasts .

Just finished with A deadly Education and The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik and really appreciated El's teenage inner turmoil and the way we get to see her understanding of herself and those around her shift with each new experience/bit of information.

N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy also really sticks out. She makes the reader care about and empathize with the character's so deeply. The story is that much more devastating as a result.

I haven't come across that one before, but from the sounds of it, I think you might be right! Thanks!

Also need to second The Forgotten Beasts of Eld :)

Bloodstone by Karl Edward Wagner That and the other 4 book that comprise the Kane the Mythic Swordsman series . That book all the best place to start this series . Kane an immortal heroic villain/antihero . Not a nice person but interesting character.
