DISCUSSION THREAD -- APRIL 2021 75-WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

Well... gosh. I did not really expect that, so thank you to the five deluded souls who voted for me. More seriously, it is greatly appreciated.

5 votes seemed a small number to win with, but that makes it all the more special, especially when you see how the votes were spread out, indicitive, of course, at how good all the stories are.

So now for the real challenge, coming up with next month. Time for some deep thought.

Hmmm, in the style of Dante, Milton or Chaucer....

;)

@The Judge is that the lowest winning vote count that we've had?

Nope.

I've not yet started on the 2020-21 figures yet, so I can't speak for what's happened there, but in the years up to 2019-20 there were five occasions when someone won with only 4 votes -- all but one of those involved a tie-break, though, in two instances with three entrants involved, and for the remaining one there were five entrants in second place on 3 votes. There are ten more instances where the winner had 5 votes, and again most of those involved tie-breaks. So these relatively low-scoring wins aren't particularly rare and arise where there are several stories all getting a number of votes.

Congratulations, Perp! :) A terrific story, and a hard-fought victory... congrats, as well, to everyone who kept it close, and to us all on a really fun Challenge. Looking forward to your choices for May, Perp, CC

Capital victory , PM! Great entry and a well deserved win.

Thanks for the shortlistings BT & Dan Jones, johnnyjet and farntfar. And brilliant to log in two find two more votes, so thankyou Luiglin and Mad Alice for making my day. Poetry is usually my thing, so it's great to get such positive feedback when I try something different.

Congrats @Perpetual Man and thanks for the mentions folks.

Apologies, couldn't do a top 3 this month, life and work too hectic but I did like @paranoid marvin's take.

Ok, writing serious stuff is getting me nowhere, plus it's a headache to boot. Next month I'm back to bad puns, even if it doesn't make anyone else smile it'll get a grin from me.... and everyone knows that only really bad comedians laugh at their own jokes.

Bravo, @Perpetual Man. Well done everyone. What a good round this was, so kudos to @Victoria Silverwolf for picking a inspiring combination of topic and genre.

And thanks everyone for all the short lists and mentions. Wow, 10 in total (definitely my most ever), plus a stealthy last minute vote from @Ursa major, that sneaky, post-credits scene of a bear, slipping an envelope under the door just after the polling booth doors were shut.

I'm going to reach out one night to switch off the lamp and find a paw tentatively poised...
