DISCUSSION THREAD -- July 2021 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #42

Yay! Congratulations @Cat's Cradle - fabulous, fabulous, fabulous :D your tale of time and duty was very very good - just missed out on a vote from me, but that's just testament to the quality on show this month.

Peaty, smoky, Hebridean drams all round to those lovely folks who mentioned my story in shortlists and the like - @BT Jones, @farntfar, @sule, @chrispenycate, @Peter V, and @Cat's Cradle (thanks for the lovely comment).

And special, magical sightings of Nessie (not in Loch Ness, you'll notice - to paraphrase Indy, they're looking in the wrong place!) go to @Mon0Zer0 and @Phyrebrat for their votes - thanks all!

Congratulations, CC!! A really great tale!

For those who missed out on a vote or were otherwise disappointed with their showing -- and I'd echo CC's comments about how it's possible to go from hero to zero from one quarter to the next -- don't forget that the 300s also have an Improving thread. So if you want help in seeing what possibly went wrong or advice on how to make the next one better, put your work up and get feedback.

Congratulations, @Cat's Cradle - I believe the standard celebration is to stand us all a round? No? Oh, damn.

A well-deserved win, anyway.

Thank you, everyone! Wow, to have gotten the most votes in a Challenge of such wonderful stories just amazes me. Honestly, I am not sure how it happened, but I am very grateful for the votes, mentions, and kind words (big thank yous to Abernovo, Phryebrat and The Judge for the late votes, and atsouthorn, I'm happy you enjoyed the story). I'd like to say 'Well done, everyone!' for the high standard of the entries, and I hope everyone will return for October's Challenge (along with veterans who weren't able to enter this time, and new members, as they come along and try their hand at storytelling).

Chrispenycate, I hope you are feeling better. We missed you in the Challenge.

Abernovo, I would gladly stand the whole group of Challengers a round, when the world is a bit calmer. ;)

Just a final few words - my wife and I lost our only kitty to kidney disease this past April. After four months of mourning we decided to look for a new kitty to give a home, and a friend of a friend who had a beautiful five-year-old she could no longer keep decided to bring the kitty, Tilda, over to us yesterday evening; and then I won the Challenge. It was an unexpectedly good day. (TJ, I will send a picture to you once she comes out from under the bed.;)) Thanks again, and see you in the next Challenge, CC

Thanks, everyone!

With everything I did write, I forgot to mention that for the longest time I was sure @Victoria Silverwolf's wonderful story would win, then when votes started pouring in for @The Judge, I was sure either she or Victoria would win. To you both - I'm sorry! But it was so close, and to come from behind on the last day was so surprising, CC

Congratulations, Cat's Cradle!

I am enormously grateful to farntfar, paranoid marvin, Wayne Mack, johnnyjet, Peter V, Elckerlyc, and Cat's Cradle for giving my story a mention, and to Perpetual Man, Marvin, The Judge, M. Robert Gibson, and therapist for the votes!

Well done @Cat's Cradle . I always feel a bit smug when I back a winner. :sneaky:

And many thanks to @Luiglin for the unexpected vote

And thanks for the mentions, @JS Wiig , @therapist , @Dan Jones and anyone else that I might have missed

As for my effort, the image reminded me of...
jaws.png

and I just couldn't shake it, and so Ora Magnappetitus was born.
Ora being the Latin for 'jaws' (according to the internet) and Magnappetitus being a pormanteau word of Magna Appetitus 'big appetite' (again, according to the internet)
And, of course, the Law and Order Alliance being a thinly disguised version of The Justice League in a desperate attempt to avoid any copyright issues ;)

Thanks everyone

Carry on
