DISCUSSION THREAD -- FEBRUARY 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Would you know the difference? How can you be sure the memories you have now are real?
Unfortunately, our memory is notoriously fickle, just read up on the weird and wonderful Mandela Effect.

I have heard of the Mandela effect; the one that messes me up is the Berenstain(stein?) Bears.

There's a very good psychology book called Stumbling on Happiness, which despite its title is not a self help book, but rather an excellent explanation of why we're terrible at figuring out what will make us happy, due to things like faulty memory/perception/imagination/etc.
I have a very distinct memory of being in the garden with my father when I was young and cutting my left arm. How do I know it’s false? - The scar is on my right arm.
I have several old sports injuries, and I can "play" with the memories and have them happen to one side or the other, and have to physically check myself to set things straight.
Or a glitch in the matrix?
Don't be frightened if you're visited by several stoic men in suits tomorrow. They're definitely friendly.

Definitely.

You should have gone for it Nixie, and anyone that didn't vote for you we could have chased them down and burned at the steak (or have a BBQ with burnt steak and beers). Missed opportunities, what can I say.

My short-list was:

Luiglin – In the Blink of and Eye

Outtalnc – Breadcrumbs

And reiver33 who deserves a massive congratulations for the winning entrant – A Better Yesterday.

I voted for Aknot’s A Job Well Done.

Thank you for your listings, WSDuffy, JS Wiig, and Starbeast. I feel my story for February diverted from my usual schtick of unadulterated darkness, and was quite shocked to receive a vote, so a very big thank you, johnnyjet.

It really is. Liquid water; that’s what my voice is like, liquid water.
I want to win one with puns so awful that @Phyrebrat will refuse to read it. Either that or come up with a character name along the lines of Gzackakcxytowilfyllllnodifek... and that would just be the nickname.

:D

(Just a reminder BTW, I’m not a self-appointed narrator of our challenge entries, but that if people do not want to read their own, I’m happy to do it. Also some members might refuse permission for their story to be featured, which is fine also)

I don't think you've got much to worry about since it took me 9 years to win one and since that point have been on a downward slide. So, see you in around 18 years
