Why Do Writers Write Science Fiction At All?

I think of it as a thought experiment.
Something that might start with a what if...
Like:
What if we had flying cars...
What if there was one government controlling the world...
What if space aliens exist...

Techno-cultural thought experiments that are not used well enough by our so called educational system. I wish I could remember the discussions about Brave New World and 1984 from high school. I didn't particularly like either book at the time and technology with excitement was more my style.

Comparing The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin to Voyage from Yesteryear by James P Hogan would be more interesting. Of course it would have been more interesting then with the requirement for time travel.

Now we have endless blather about the economy without having explained anything about it for 50 years. British politicians knew what Brexit would do. Yeah Right!
