DISCUSSION THREAD -- OCTOBER 2022 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Question for the challenge winners.
Is winning really that much more satisfying than getting single votes in 75?
I've won one challenge, so I can answer too.

Everyone enjoys winning. Through the years I've discovered that mentions can be just as satisfying as a vote. Even though you didn't win, it's wonderful to read comments about your entry or have a single "stealth vote" in your favor. For me, coming up with a story is fun, along with seeing what other people dream up for their submission, even when I don't get any vote or a mention.

EDIT!!!
I just checked the Poll and read the previous discussion thread pages.

@Jo Zebedee Thank you for the Stealth Vote. Plus a huge THANK YOU for all who mentioned my story.

Thanks for the shortlistings Elckerlyc, Jo Zebedee, Bren G and Daysman, you've made my day. And a vote from therapist, thankyou so much! (y)

That's one nice thing about the reviews that @Parson and @Victoria Silverwolf selflessly put up every month; even if you've written something that doesn't resonate with the readers or just isn't very good (as I am typically wont to do, one or the other) you can count on those two to say something nice or positive about it.

So many good stories, well done all, and terrific genre/theme choices from last month's winner, Jo. As always, thanks so much to Victoria and Parson for the fine reviews. Also, great job, Ursa, on the poll!

I had a number of stories I could have voted for, and here are my lists:

Honorable mentions:
Christine Wheelwright, Victoria Silverwolf, VRlass, Mon0Zer0, Peter V

Shortlist:
paranoid marvin, BT Jones, Dan Jones

Finalists:
sule, Phyrebrat, Daysman, Jo Zebedee

I had to choose, finally, as the contest will close soon - it was a close call, but I kept coming back to Daysman's sad, moving tale, so my vote went there.

To my earlier thank yous I would like to add Bren G and Elckerlyc for the greatly appreciated listings. :)

Close race, good luck, all, CC

ps - @Starbeast, I think I may have won the Challenge right after your win. I still remember your story - it was three individual tales told in 75 words, if I remember correctly, all very funny. One of the ones I'll always remember (am I right, is that the one you won for?). :)

The poll has closed and we have a tie!

Ursa is off gallivanting, and I'm not at my best at this time of night so I'm not going to try to set up the tie-break thread just now, as it's likely to end in disaster! Fingers crossed, and technology willing, it will appear later this morning!

She says at 9:30 at night. :p

It's fine, no biggie, I'll settle for the draw.

I thought the vote is till the end of month…I wanted to reed them through weekend

i read the 2 tied ones carefully and:
Daysman, made me google 3 words, while Dan Jones allmost every third (though it was rewarding).
Both have stuf i love and stuff i dont understand (75 is a little-death that brings total obliteration to understanding).
In the end:
Vote Daysman

Thanks for the shortlisting CC. I was really happy that I managed to write a horror story that went down well with readers, especially up against such good competition.

Well done to Daysman and Dan Jones for making it to the tiebreaker. I voted for DJ first time around, and he gets my vote this time as well.

Congrats to @Dan Jones and @Daysman for a couple of fine stories. Thanks to @mosaix and @BigJ for the votes and to others who gave me a shortlisting or honorable mention. It was a funny month with votes spread across many stories. I wonder if three votes per person (like in the 300 word challenge) would improve things. Just a thought.

That's not the first time its been suggested and there have been 2 or 3 months when we actually went that way for a change up.

Voted for @Daysman. I liked the selfless giving in it. It's a testament to love.
