Children's classics recommendations?

Bottersnikes and Gumballs?
Not heard of that. And its from an Australian author BUT they do look familiar, especially the little ones on top!

I was going to recommend The Eagle of the Ninth, but it's already listed!

Has anyone mentioned the lion, the witch and the wardrobe?

I don't think they have, Danny. Nor the rest of the series.

And I haven't noticed The Hobbit either.

The Wind Singer by William Nicholson is really early YA, I suppose.

Lucky Starr, Space Ranger by Isaac Asimov, and it's sequels.

The Little Grey Men and The Little Grey Men Go Down the Bright Stream by "BB" are lovely.

The Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators books. I read about 15 of them.

I read one of those , The Mystery of the Whispering Mummy .

The 'choose your own adventure/fighting fantasy' style books are very good - lots of differing themes, although many  do involve combat - and help stimulate the imagination.
