Every TV series starts with episode one

I actually like the pilot episode , the problem is the series very quickly went down hilll from the pilot on and yet, amazingly ran from 1965 to 1970. The man who produced this show was Sidney Sheldon . I think it would have been better had they made this into a standalone feature film .

There were some where the original episode seems to have faded from consciousness.
I remember watching the BBC Play for Today The Black Stuff in (I think) 1980.
A couple of years later the series The Boys from the Black Stuff rapidly became peak time viewing - but few remember the original play.

The Tv series McHale's Navy which under the head of Classic Comedy didn't start of as one . The Pilot off the series is very different in tone to the rest of the series . It was orignall intense to be series war drama like Combat and the Rat Patrol . You can find it on YouTube. It's actually quite good.

I always liked the opening to the Rat Patrol. Rat Patrol Opening

As a series, it was ok, not great.

I know you folks across the pond didn't get to see it - it sort of took American credit for SAS activities in North Africa, and was banned in the UK.
Oh we did :) and I remember the leaping jeep opening. Where did you read that it was banned in the UK? (maybe the ban came later)

Several places. One site said the first 6 episodes were aired then it was banned, apparently due to a retired general who was an MP. Not sure how accurate that is.

I just watched it. It is good. They should have kept that format.

Ah, fine. That would explain why I remembered it. Thanks :giggle:

I've never cared for the Invaders, whether then or now. I recently rewatched the pilot. Very dated.

CLIFFHANGERS did not start with episode one per se which caused some confusion.

Episode 1:

"Chapter II: The Silent Enemy
(Stop Susan Williams)

Chapter III: Plunge into Mystery
(The Secret Empire)

Chapter VI: Lifeblood
(The Curse of Dracula)"

Thanks for that.

I love The Magic Roundabout. Loved it as a kid, and loved the three VHS tapes I bought when I was older.

It's a crying shame that the whole lot is not available on DVD.

The idea was to have one or all three become regular series . The Secret Empire was going to be discontinued because of it's cost of production.
