Sci-fi recommendations for a fantasy fan?

"It's one of the earliest sci-fi books with a realistic, Bechdel-test-passing female character. (TMIAHM)

And introduced Hazel Stone as a child. Hazel is the spittin' image of Ginny (who was her prorotype). When I get to missing Ginny, I read Hazel.

Out of the Silent Planet and the rest of C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy might be up your alley. It includes metaphysical aliens.

You might like Burroughs' Barsoom series. It's mostly sci-fi but there are some fantasy elements. Anything by Jules Verne. Another option is Star Wars literature.

The Space Merchants by Frederick Pohl and C m Kornbluth

I am voting for Dune (Frank Herbert) as well.
I'd also recommend Dune and the first few sequels for someone who likes Fantasy. Also, Michael Moorcock, Ray Bradbury and J G Ballard though they may be a little old-fashioned.

'The City and the Stars' and 'Against the Fall of Night' by Clarke.

They are wonderful.
Against the Fall of Night was his first novel, written in 1948 (Startling Stories novella) and published as a novel in 1951. He wasn't happy with it and rewrote it in a similar form with many of the same characters as The City and the Stars in 1956.

I read City before Night and prefer it, but many people think Night was the best work of his career.
In my opinion, The City and the Stars was one of the 5 or 6 best SF novels ever written.

The two novels were discussed in detail in the fifth segment of 'The Fifty Minute Hour'

A Book you might want to check out is The Lost Worlds of 2001 by Arthur C Clarke The book contain different and early version of what became 2001.

I've read it. I much admired Clarke.
Ginny told me that Robert had come to very much regret his falling out with Clarke.
I asked her if she would mind if I let Clarke know that, and she said she would appreciate it. I didn't get it done before Clarke's death, and I very much regret that.

'The Starmen of Llyrdis' by Leigh Brackett.
She was a great author and screenwriter. And this book has a terrific opening.
