A Dance with Dragons

IMO, AU is correct. Even if all the Night's Watch were slain except for Jon, he'd remember his vows and fight on.

But what if the reverse happened? What if the Others were annihilated and the Wildlings pacified or incorporated into Westeros? What if there were no longer a need for the men in Black? It may be a bit of a stretch, but Jon would be free to do something else... say, fight dragons!

But then who would protect the kingdom from all the snarks and grumkins?

Hire thome thellthwordth to fight the thnarkth and grumpkinth!

I think it's fairly likely that Daenerys will somehow end up fighting the Others with her dragons. After all, this is a "Tale of Fire and Ice." Jon will probably fall in love with her, but somehow not forget his vows.

I dont think so.I think that Jon IS the Song of ice and fire. He is half Stark and half Targaryen-ice and fire. In ACOC Daenerys had a vision about her brother Rheagar:
"The fifth room, finally, shows a man very much alike her brother Viserys, except that he is taller and has eyes of dark indigo rather than lilac. He is speaking to a woman who is nursing a newborn babe, telling her that the child's name should be Aegon and saying that "What better name for a king?". The woman asks him if he will make a song for the child, and he replies that he has a song and that "He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire."
I think this baby was Jon. I dont believe that Jon will fall in love with Daenerys. But I'm almost sure- Jon will be the next king.

jon has still yet to recieve the letter in which rob named him his heir, and made him a true stark... what's jon gonna do then? he's the king of the north and doesn't know it yet. besides if he stayed at the wall i dont think the nights watch will be taken down so easily as cersei is ...er well was, forget she just got imprisioned, well they were suppose to send men to the wall... but she also refered to the fight between robert and rhaegar as a dance of dragons. grrm is a clever guy, i don't think the new title of the next book was mere coinsidence. but i cn't get over this queen of hearts syndrom... any time you start to like someone, it's off with their head!!

I'm off the definate opinion that people read far too much detail into these books;) I reckon its just because the dragons will be off burning Westeros to the gorund and such:D
There will be no bujrning down of westros in ADoD. It happens at the same time as AFFC. The dragons are not necessarily the same dragons (animals) you're thinking of

Any one else freek out and get scared when cerci ploted to kill John Snow. Off the subject but Anika's post reminded me about GRRM killing people off. I don't no if I could keep reading. That would be one Stark too many.

lol, my god i hope he's done with killing the starks! i was in complete shock when he had killed ned in the first one...

Tyranus: actually, the book following A Storm Of Swords was always planned to be titled A Dance With Dragons. It was only when the five-year gap was scrapped that the intermediate book was created and titled A Feast For Crows. So the ADWD title predates AFFC.

Midnight:
I think Jon is actually about 6 months older then is let on.It would not be that difficult for ned to pass him of as a younger babe when he brings the infant home to Catelyn(kids vary greatly in size and developement). One last quick note.A friend of mine pointed out that Aegon can be pronounced with a hard "g" making it sound like AE-JON.

No way. Kids do not vary anything like THAT much in size and development. An eight-month-old baby could simply not be passed off as two months old. And Aegon was probably more than six months older than Jon: possibly as much as a year.

Also, Aegon is NOT pronounced that way.

Jon is not Aegon.

Summer: GRRM has confirmed that the baby in that vision was Aegon, and the woman was Elia.

Yes Raven I know that now, but that was nearly six months ago, when I had just heard about it.

Took you long enough.

The idea of Jon and Dany turning out to be siblings is all abit to Return OF The Jedi for me. I somehow suspect GRRM is leading us down a false trail here, its too easy a plot twist. I suspect Dany and Jon may become closer than brother and sister anyway! They have alot in common, sidelined from an early age, fought their way to the top, etc. Remember, Dany needs close allies to ride those two dragons she's got going spare; one of those riders will likely be a lover.

Of course it isn't beyond the realm of possibilities that Jon + Dany get together....THEN discover they ARE brother and sister. Now that would be a cruel twist!

You know what would be a real twist if a brother vs sister scenario occurs, Jon vs faceless man Arya. I have no idea how that would come about, but it would really be interesting:D.

Even if Jon turns out to be a ******* Targaryen he would be the son of Dany's brother, thus her nephew. Aunt-nephew relations aren't all that bad are they?;)

Heya, New to the boards, but i like what i've seen so far! I'm on my second reread, but it seems so me that ADoD might have more to do with the training of Danys Dragons. Seems a giant fire breathing critter might take alittle finess where education is involved. How is Dany going to teach Drogon little farm girls are not appropriate midnight snacks and such? Plus GRRM has taken 4 books on just the Westerosi Civil War, i find it hard to believe Dany is going to show up and move from KL to the Wall in just one book, regardless of how long it is. Just some thoughts! :D
