Which Series Do You Think is Greater Babylon 5 or Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica ?

I'm afraid I never found any of the characters in Babylon 5 at all engaging, whether they were human or alien. I did give it a chance, watching most of the 1st series before giving up, but it just didn't work for me.

BSG, however, caught me from the start, and the fact that I found my sympathies flipping from one side to another during the first couple of series was very captivating.

It's season 2 in B5 m that things really ramp up.

The story may get exciting, Baylor, but if I have no feeling for the characters, it really doesn't matter.
Anyway I won't be giving it another go, but thanks for your enthusiasm.

Fair enough.:)

I really don't see what the big deal is about poor CGI in B5. If the story has a strong narrative, the viewer should be able to look beyond the visual representations - after all, what does a person do if they read a book? Criticise the non-existent graphics? What about Casablanca - criticise it for being in black and white?

Strong story is everything as far as I'm concerned. I must admit, I thought the weakest B5 seasons were the first and the fifth but the rest I loved. Could never get into BSG.

I also think the CGI ships look like  CGI (though they do look good, and (when appropriate) "organic") and that actual models look more "real". However, the story within B5 is so damn good, I don't care.

It changed Television.

Seems like a literary forum thing to do - defend the story of media with poor visuals, or attack the story of great looking film.

But it is audio visual media. Not a book.

Season 1 is very weak and the lead actor somewhat wooden - at times that series can look like just another forgettable campy low budget US sci-fi, little different from the rest at the time.

Honestly, try watching Season 2 episode 1 and let it run. We no longer have the wooden lead actor, and the storytelling shifts into gear. There are a few dud episodes, as you might expect with any series, but not many, and the story ramps up quickly. By the time you get into Season 3 the plot is without par and the character development is second to none.
