DISCUSSION THREAD -- December 2023 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

My vote: See You Later, Alligator… by @The Judge. Made me smile the whole time.

My shortlist: The Lantern by @Yozh, Just One Day, How it Used to Be by @LittleStar, Bears Discover Christmas by @johnnyjet, and The Final Interrogation of Fingers McNastie by @M. Robert Gibson

Thank you for the vote @Parson! Much appreciated. And thank you for the mentions @Victoria Silverwolf, @Yozh, @THX1138, @Provincial, @johnnyjet, @M. Robert Gibson and @Hugh!

Very festive stories all around! Happy holidays y’all and have a great new year!

Thanks to VRLass, M.Robert Gibson and Starbeast for the shortlistings. I do think that I failed somewhere between trying to meet the theme and genrecthis month. I enjoy reading MR, but I'm not sure that I'm that great at capturing it in my writing.

Several made my nice list, but the one that gets the mince pies and sherry is Bowler1.

Being rather pernickity, I've ruled out a lot of good stories this Challenge because for me they fell the wrong side of how I'm defining the genre of magic realism, which very loosely is strangeness (and preferably out-and-out weirdness) which is accepted as normal in an otherwise mundane world, so for me "ordinary" fantasy doesn't quite hit the mark, though there were some tales I really loved.

That being the case, a short shortlist from me this month:

emrosenagel -- Green Christmas
JS Wiig -- Winter Festival
nixie -- Sometimes wishes come true.
THX1138 -- The Snow Geese
Victoria Silverwolf -- Pilgrims
Yozh -- The Lantern

I was very taken with the upside-down weather conditions from emrosenagel and JS Wiig, who come in 2nd and 3rd respectively, but my vote goes to THX1138 for the very lovely imagery of the snow-bringing geese.

And a special Judge's Prize for Cleverest Concept to genelewis and the intriguing Invisible Holidays.

Many Primeval Holiday Thanks for the lovely shortlistings Parson and CC, and very many Snappy Crocodilian Thanks for the wonderful votes, Victoria and emrosenagel!

At least I backed a winner, even if I didn't win. To be fair, when I read MRG's entry I felt my number was up because I loved the character voices achieved in 75 words... a good job.

Mentions and votes greatly appreciated, with my thanks.

There's always next month to attempt further blackmail, threatening behavior and needless violence to win.
