Stevenson for Kidnapped and Treasure Island with the wider public I would have thought.

I would argue that Jeckyll & Hyde is the more recognised (and most copied) story, but it's a close run thing between that and Treasure Island.

I'd give the nod to Jekyll and Hyde if only because of the many, many adaptations and other writers' variations on it.

Fair enough, he's famous for lots of books; though all genre work in relation to the realist tendency of his era.
