I was reading an article on the Italian Navy's new class of patrol boats (you'd think I'd have something better to do on a saturday morning  ) and was surprised to see a double bow. Being the anorak that I am, I went searching for an answer to this strange design. Apparently, it can add a knot of speed to the ship by extending its length at the waterline without actually having to increase the overall size of the ship. The upper part adds stability. Pretty clever in my book so I thought I'd share. The article in the link is old news from 2016 but it's new to me:)

I use a double bow in my shoelaces. It adds another knot to them too.
