Movie News?

Just to note that I removed a couple of posts from this thread after it turned into a very childish little fight between a couple of members.

Established forum members really should know better than this - if I see it happen again, I'll ensure you have time to cool off before posting again.

My apologies to sachisedai for it happening.

I have to agree that a miniseries would be the best way to go with WoT. The books are just simply too long to make into movies. Animation would also be one of the more likely answers. I think it would be the easiest way to show battles of the one power. But that is just me.

A problem with miniseries is that they tend to be under-financed, badly written and poorly produced. Some TV series seem to buck this trend, but as a whole, television is a corner-cutting medium.

If they could actually do it justice, make it feel professional (and not just something that people look back on and shake their heads), then fair enough.

Personally, I think it would flounder before they got to series 12 anyway, so I'd rather they made films.

Thank you:)

I cringe at even typing this and I'm unsure at how I feel about it, but what if they did computer anime? Do you think it would take away from the story?

It could work, but it's the same as any other medium - they would have to do it right or it would stink :)

It reminds me of the Terry Pratchett cartoons I've seen. You'd have thought that cartoons were the best way to film his books, but they missed the mark with nearly every joke.

Ok so I'm currently reading Film and Television Studies at uni so am really interested in getting into the movie industry. What has that got to do with the WoT movies I hear you ask?

Well I also happen to be a big fan of the WoT books ... thanks in large part to my mum for making me read them ... and got really excited by the remote possibility of a movie being made from them.

Thing is I would love to be involved in the making of these movies and will hopefully have a kind of foothold within the industry by the time they get around to making them.

So yeah I'm gonna go now after having bored you with that piece of useless information.
Byex

An announcement has been made about The Wheel of Time movie by Red Eagle Productions:

First, Red Eagle remains passionately focused on the global growth and success of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time brand. As an integral part of this commitment, Red Eagle is producing a live-action, big-budget feature film based upon the first novel in Jordan’s epic series, The Eye of the World. And we are making truly extraordinary progress. More than any other group of people, readers of The Wheel of Time know that a film adaptation of these epic books is no simple endeavor, and there is certainly no tried-and-true formula for such a complex story as there is in other film categories such as romantic comedies or hack ‘n slash thrillers. Rather, great motion pictures require a long, deliberate creative process, and pictures in the fantasy-fiction genre can take years to produce. I know we have not said much recently, but behind the scenes, we have been working tirelessly to assemble a world-class team for the making of this picture.

Second, we are still in the development phase, but thus far we have attached an award-winning director to the project, a top husband and wife writing team, we have partnered with an experienced production company, and we are finalizing arrangements with one of the best production designers in the business to create a unique visual environment for the picture. Every person attached to the project is at the top tier of his or her craft. In the coming months, we will have much more to say about this project and who will be involved, but for now, we can simply say that all of the pieces are coming together nicely.

And third, we ask you to understand that we cannot say more at the present. Please be assured that as we move forward with the production of the picture, we intend to closely involve the user communities at major Wheel of Time websites such as Wotmania, Tar Valon and Dragonmount at every step of the way.

Ooooooooooh! Wow that was a great update, Thanks so much;) I'd really love to read that at the site, can you possibly post the link for it? Please, Please, Please?:)

Although I doubt if I will be watching it, as I mentioned previously, it will be very interesting to follow the progress of this film. So thank you for the link Werhead... :)

Well... it would be interesting... that's for sure...
and Rosemary, you're not the only one still interested!

And I heard that Xena/Hercules comment... I happen to like those two shows...

The factor that made the Lord of the Rings series such an overwhelming success was Peter Jackson's absolute love for the books. He was the impetus that drove the project. It wasn't a movie studio that assembled a team. I think this same kind of thing is necessary for the WOT movie to be of the same caliber and I wonder who it is that they got as director and writing team?

good point ef7... it would most definately have to be someone who is very dedicated, and willing to keep true to the books...

Jordan didn't sell movie rights. He sold the rights to make a television series, and it is currently a project under construction. The process won't move for a while, because of Jordan's present condition, and the fact they have barely started.

Making movies based on WoT will take probably about 20 years, so just think about the cast - how many actors can commit to making so many movies for so much time? And can it really live up to what we've pictured in our imagination?
