Who do you think is the best villian you've ever heard about in the fantasy/sci-fi world?

It can be from Book, Movie, Poem, Video Game, anything.

In my opinion I would say Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, he was just crazy but was also cool, calculating and just didnt seem too evil compared to others I have witnessed in fantasy.

HMM.. that's a toughie....

I can't think of anyone specifically at the moment other than maybe Hugh from Kate Elliot's Crown Of Stars fantasy series. Not that he's the most evil dude you would come across but I personally found him quite an unsettling and scheming character.

OH just remembered Lord Foul from Donaldson's Covenant series isn't much chop either...

I know there's plenty more I can't think of at the moment LOL!...

I quite like Hugh. :)

I think that Mr Tumnus from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is the best villain in the world of fantasy fiction.

Asides from the infrequent raping what else is there to hold against the man?
UM I would've thought that would have been enough for starters but apparently not......

Then again form memory I'm pretty sure you have only started reading this series recently so not sure if you've got to the end of the current books or am I confusing you with someone else??

Now I am confused... HE HE... :D

That aside YES I'll agree Hugh isn't the worst villian of all time Lord Foul sucks big time!!!

Mr Tumnus is such a deceitful little goat he makes Hugh And Lord Foul look like Bob Geldof and Bono.
Seriously?

I'm going to have to check this Tumnus character out again. HMMM.. time for a re-read methinks... :D

PS I always thought Geldof and Bono were kinda scarey but in a different way LOL!..... ;)

It's ZZZZZZ time for me, so see Ya mate! :D

I really liked the coeurl from Voyage of the Space Beagle. Although it was more of a monster...

Perhaps Thulsa Doom, then.

The Emperor & Darth Vader - Star Wars

There are loads more, but the best I can do on short notice... ;)

thats kinda why i was asking for your best villian, lol.

The Crippled God? Rhulad? (though closer a bit grey in character, rather than a black villain)
Korbolo Dom and Mallick Rel
The Pannion Seer
from Erikson.
All of the Lannisters except Jaime from GRRM's A song of Ice and Fire
The Valheru - from Feist's Midkemia books
Slake Moths from Perdido Street Station by China Mieville.

This is difficult! I mainly read darker books with grey characters, so it's hard to find pure villains.

Uther Doul a villain? I wouldn't really say he was a villain.

I'm going to have to agree with The Master on this one-Darth Vader is one heck of a villian. One: he's really imposing with the voice, suit, and height (I think he was supposed to be 7 ft tall in the book, but its been a while since I read it); two: he torchures his own kids (and not in a friendly-hi-honey or you-are-not-going-there-unchaparoned way); three: he has a fully orchestrated theme song-how cool is that; and four: he's got a cool back story of his own and isn't just some shallow mysterious villian just out there to be wicked.
