Best Villain

Darth Vader in terms of film...

But in literature - ah, now that's the challenge - to create an antagonist who is believably real and not vaudevillian melodrama. In which case, I'd have to consider Raistlin from Dragonlance a great villain for his entirely self-centered motivation and betrayal.

The Moidart / Ravenheart, Stormrider

Whats not to like? He has brains, balls, no mercy, and an excellent pathos in my opinion. Far more intriguing than Winter Kay(The main villain in the story).

wish i had my own theme when i walked in to a room.

no u don't. theres an episode of family guy when peter asks a genie for his own theme song and it all goes a bit wrong.

Brian - im agreeing with you. Raistlin is a great villian in books.
I'm also going to go with Frater hugh (alia :D ).
I have a thing about likeable villians.

Film wise - darth vader no question, for all the reasons that feline eyes said.

Gamewise - Sephiroth in final fantasy 7, and also sarevok in baldur's gate.

There are a lot of good villains about, a lot of them already been mentioned. Currently reading Brent Weeks Light Bringer series and Andross Guile deserves a place on the list.

One of the best-imagined sf/f villains in my reading experience is Wither, the deputy director of the NICE, in C. S. Lewis's That Hideous Strength. He's just back from Davos....

Darth Vader
Agent Smith (Matrix)
Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter BOOKS)
Milo Minderbinder (Catch-22)
The Mayor (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Lex Luthor (despite some unfortunate live actor showings)
