Series Discussions

Series that aren't necessary the same story running through all the books are also OK :) E.g. THe Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. They include the same characters but a different story each book :)
As long as the books are listed under a series name then I think we can all consider them as a series :D

I'd probably go for a new series discussion every fortnight. Perhpas if we get the two most popular ones voted in..

Anymore thoughts for Gollum's suggestions :) I'd be happy enough with two a month, though it may be a little confusing.

These are the definate votes so far -

Banned and the Bannished - James Clemens – 1 vote

The Last Rune - Mark Anthony – 2 votes

The Stone Dance of the Chameleon series by Ricardo Pinto – 1 vote

Books of the Rai-Kirah (Transformation/Revelation/Restoration) by Carol Berg – 1 vote

Fritz Leiber's Lankhmar series – 2 vote

Sword of Shadows series by J V Jones – 2 vote

Ricardo Pinto's Dance Of The Chameleon – 1 vote

I think you'll find that makes a total of 2 votes for Ricard Pinto's series there Rune....

Any ideas how long you'll run this post for before deciding or is it a case of waiting until a clear favourite or two appears from the fold?... :D

BTW I'm happy with 1/month or 2/month for discussion whatever the majority decides.

I would'nt mind talking bout the Lankhmar series, but how about throwin in a bit of Gemmell?:D

The beauty of this project is that you can keep nominating series you like until they get the most votes and get discussed :D

So does that mean I can vote mulitple times for the same book Rune??..;)

On a more serious note I assume members can only post say 2 votes for 2 books/series and not post again even if second tmie around it's a different book/series than what they previuosly voted on??..Just wondering...:D

I'd like to see a discussion of the Tim Powers trilogy that is comprised of "Last Call", "Expiration Date", and "Earthquake Weather". Of course, as you read the first two, it is impossible to see any relation between them, but when you get to the third book, everything comes together in what I found to be an intriguing and ingeniuos way.

I had to think about this one. Kinda confusing isnt it

Well see if I can explain it better -

Two nominations per month.
The one with most nominations wins

If the series you wanted didnt win that particular month you nominated - you can nominated it again the next month.
And so forth. So if you really want a series to be discussed, you can keep putting forward for nomination each month until eventually it wins :)

Is that any clearer?

Lets see were we are with votes then :) -

Hi rune :D I'm just about to mess up your series tally:D

Make mine the 3rd vote for Sword of Shadows - J.V.Jones series.:) :)

Thank you very much:D :)

How do folks feel about the August discussions. I've not read any of the books picked so couldnt contribute. But was it worth doing, did you all enjoy chatting about the ones picked?

Biggest question - shall we do it again?

The discussions were pretty good - if a little limited because not many people had read the books that were nominated, but hopefully it influenced people to read them. Definitely worth doing again.

All right, so I think it's time to nominate new series? I'd vote for
"The Coldfire Trilogy" by CS Friedman and
"The Fionavar Tapestry" by Guy Gavriel Kay,
although I'm relatively sure these two cycles aren't very well known here, or at least, I couldn't find any thread concernin either one of these two authors. But then, I'll be happy to take part in discussions concerning other authors and their cycles (as long as I've read their books:))
