This thread is a spoiler thread, if you haven't read the book and don't want to know what's going on, then back away now...

I personally have only read the first two chapters of the book and I have to admit addiction already... :D

My thoughts so far... 'oooooooo...' getting interesting. Draco is to kill Harry Potter with Snape to finish the job if Draco fails...

Anyone finish the book already? What did you think?

I've only had mine for a few hours... but I'm off to go read...

Re: Thought About Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS)

Well, I got his for £7, so i'm happy. Read the same amount as you, and apart from the good set ups storyline wise, Rowling's writing quality again seems to have improved. This has happened in each book so far, so I'm glad that trend has continued:)

This new minister for magic, Rufus whatsisname, seems quite cool:D

Re: Thought About Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS)

I have read the book (only took me 8 hours and 25 minutes). It is great, though the questions "Who is the half blood prince" and "who is going to die" were resolved almost at the very end of the book. Rowling has improved he writing over the course of the books. I did not want to put this one down. I actually slightly screamed at my father because he was bugging me while I read it. Even thoug this is a spoiler thread, I don't want to reveal anthing major, just in case peple haven't read that far. I do like that Harry falls in love. I think most people have been expecting it since the second book. I know I have. I want to know how this story ends. I hopw we don't have to wait 2 years for the next one. If we do, I'll be ok with it, but I want this story resolved!

Re: Thought About Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS)

It really setsup well for the next novell, i wanted to start it as soon as I had finished the sixth book. Godrics hollow will be cool to read about as well as Harry, Ron, and Hermione's trip(I hope Ginny tags along too and neville and luna). Excellant read and i hope al you blokes enjoyed it too even if there was a lot of snogging.

Snogging is cool, lots of fun. I've been married ten years and I still enjoy it!!:)
I finished it this afternoon, and called my buddy who was about 150 pages in, and all I would tell him was "Holy ****,buy tissues." Excellent book. The next one can't get here soon enough.

What a book!

SPOILER BELOW IF YOU HAVENT FINISHED

Who do you guys think 'R.A.B' is?

This isn't Alia, I am a friend who finished the book in 11 hours on Saturday. I concur with all the thoughts above and I wasn't happy with the ending. I figure it was necessary but if hogwarts doesn't open again then is R.A.B. our only thing to look forward to?

I don't think we can speculate as to who R.A.B. is because Rowling always puts in new charcters. But I do want Harry to kill Prof. Snape. He deserves it and all the Order can give him. I don't care if he did it only because of the unbreakable vow and if he really could be trusted. He could also have died instead of fulfilling the vow.

Am I the only person who thought the early chapter about 'the Other Minister' to be completely unneccessary?

Nope, and I was really looking forward to seeing how the threats to the wizards world effected everyone else!

I found most of the rest of it unecessary as well, all these little clues that seemed to go nowhere or just ended in a couple of lines at the end - such as when Hermione explaines why the Half-Blood Prince calls himself that or the resons Tonks was looking so drab. I really wanted a big twist at the end, some big revelation about something but it all seemed really rushed and most of the characters did not seem to care less after 'the death'.

The 'teenage' subplots just annoyed me, there was not real change in the relationship between the characters involved and by the end everything was back to normal. I would have quite liked to see Harry abandoned by his friends because of the relationship choices he makes and maybe left to fend for himself for a change. Maybe to teach him the value of friendship before 'the death' so he realises what he is going to miss.

But then I've never been a big fan of the books but I do quite enjoy some of them - although this one was so silly it was getting beyond farce.

I thought the book was brilliant. I don't want to say too much just incase, but WHYYYY did they have to kill of who she killed off! I think it's a brilliant idea because it means tha Harry has to grow up a bit more, he no longer has teh protection that he had previously had, but I couldn't believe it. He was one of my favourite characters :( .

I do hope that Harry has a show down with Snape, but I kinda think that he might leave Draco alone, unless something else happens.

I finished this book on Saturday and i personally found it to be the best in the series. (SPOILERS) I found it wierd that Draco was given the task of killing Harry and yet in the end he goes for dumbledore. And if the other Death Eaters were saying only Draco could kill Dumbledore, wouldn't Snape be punished for killing him?
My only qualm is that the revealing of the half-Blood Prince wasn't done in the best way possible. Snape yelling it in a coupe of sentences isn't the way I would of liked to find out.

Still though, excellent book!

The only person that has the initials RB is Regulus Black, who also seems to have a vendetta against Voldemort. We don't know what his Regulus middle initial is though its as good a guess as any. Its either that or a title, or someone we haven't met yet.

I think that RAB will be a new character after the death of Dumbledore. Thing is, in the note Harry found, it says that hes already probably dead, so i'd like to see what Rowling does next. I agree about the half blood prince thing, they shoulda revealed who it was a bit better, but come on ppl, u saw it comming!:D

This post contains spoilers...

I finally finished and this is the first chance I have to read and remark on thoughts...

My thoughts so far... 'oooooooo...' getting interesting. Draco is to kill Harry Potter with Snape to finish the job if Draco fails...
*blushes* Was I ever wrong... I figured it out half way through...

Snogging is cool, lots of fun. I've been married ten years and I still enjoy it!!:)

I didn't know if I would cry in this book like I did in Book 4. I don't remember if I cried in Book 5 or not, but I didn't cry in this one. I guess in a way I knew it would happen, why else would Dumbledore show Harry so much. No tissue for me this time.

Am I the only person who thought the early chapter about 'the Other Minister' to be completely unneccessary?
My humble opinion is the first chapter was a recap of the other books for those of us who have read the whole series it wasn't really needed. Although, I laughed through the whole thing...

I thought the book was brilliant. I don't want to say too much just incase, but WHYYYY did they have to kill of who she killed off! I think the reason why she killed (SPOILER SPOILER) Dumbledore was because up till now, he was the only one actually fighting against Voldemort. I know Harry and his friends have been too, but if you think about it, it's been Dumbledore since the beginning of Voldemort's rein of terror. The battle has now become between Harry and the Dark Lord, the way it should be. Dumbledore has done all that he can, time to let the main character show his fans what he is really made of...
Also... Draco isn't so bad...

The only person that has the initials RB is Regulus Black, who also seems to have a vendetta against Voldemort. We don't know what his Regulus middle initial is though its as good a guess as any. Its either that or a title, or someone we haven't met yet.
This was my first and only guess! I think your right Tonic! I guess Black and then had to go back and find a family tree. :)

Btw... Dumbledore has a living brother. Do any of you guys remember that?

I actually slightly screamed at my father because he was bugging me while I read it.
Animaiden... *giggles* My family left the house for a few days so I could read and so they wouldn't get snapped at for interrupting... I'm bad!

Sirius Black's brother, Regulus... At least, thats what I think. It could be someone we haven't heard of yet.

About the half blood prince. Didn't Harry say that his book was 50 years old. This kind of confuses me, though I suppose if could have already been old when the Prince got his hands on it...

What I'm glad about with this boook is that finally Rowling shows the kind of literary bravery that makes me respect a writer, and killed off someone so vitally important to the story. Its why Erikson got my respect while GRR Martin hasn't, really... bravo JK:)

Re: Thought About Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS)

I think that this was one of the best of the 'harry potter' books yet! i loved it! me being unable to read it for a few days because of work, (not to mention i live in america and you all have at least six hours on me lol) i pounded through the pages twice as fast. I have excellent intuition when it comes to reading and I knew from the beggining who the half blood prince was, werent the clues clear? an excellent potions maker who went to hogwarts some years before, it just seemed that (SPOILER) snape would have fit the role perfectly considering he has the biggest knack for it. but now to my concern i wonder who is going to mix remus' wolfbane potions...

I agree that it is incredibly brave to kill off what would be considered a favorite and vital character.... "bravo JK"

Re: Thought About Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (SPOILERS)

SPOILERS AHEAD

Well...

Even before I got my hands on the book I had a feeling aboout who she'd kill off...So the 'Draco has to kill Harry' thing fell through...I mean, Harry has to survive into the final book, or it would end up being not 'Harry Potter and whatever' but 'Harry's pals are out for revenge'...:D I was sad because he really is a great character, but if that's the way it had to go...

My thoughts on Snape and Draco are sort of mixed up after this book...I kind of feel pity for Draco because of the way he is really being held hostage and has to do this awful thing, even though it's clear he doesn't want to...And I sort of get the feeling Draco will have an important part to play in the last book on Harry's side, even though it might not be obvious till the end, so Dumbledore has ordered Snape to keep him safe as well, by any means necessary...I dunno, it sort of fits in my head, I just have trouble expressing it in words...

ULTIMATE SPOILERS DO NOT READ UNTIL BOOK FINISHED
you have been warned

i thought it was very good and i have started reading it again. big shock to me that Dumbledore got killed by snape, i thought that snape would have turned around and cursed the death eaters. thought Ginny and Harry’s romance was a bit short lived, i think it has been building up since book 2 so i don’t no why it was broken so soon. i wish the new book was not left so open for the next, because im dieing to read the next one. i thought that harry and snape should have fought there and then, and harry mortally wound snape, or kill him with avada kedavara.

Did anyone else think that Harry breaking up with Ginny was stupid? I mean come on... who is he kidding? She's a Weasley and any Weasley is in danger because they are fighting against the Dark Lord... even Percy is kidding himself if he thinks he's safe with the ministery of magic.

Anyways... I'm still holding out for Snape. I still have a feeling that he MIGHT be good. But Dumbledore did say in this last book he made mistakes and when he does they are big ones...
