Legend of Huma character sketches

Re:

You should, my friend you will enjoy it :) By the way how was your day today, and your weekend?

Here is Rennard, all feedbacks are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rennard:

Khan...I've already requested it from the library. By the way, I'm reading "A Game of Thrones" now; unfortunately it is rather slow going because I've got quite a bit going on this week. Tomorrow is election day and I will be working at a precinct from 6 am until 9 or 9:30 pm. There's also been a little bit to do to get ready for that, plus all the usual things, so I've been busy. I will be taking "Thrones" with me to the polling place in case there are lulls in business. Being the election that it is, however, I'm not sure there will be a lot of extra time.

I'm going to have to think about this new sketch a bit.

Hope you had a good weekend.

Edited to add: Oops! According to the forum clock, it is already tomorrow.

I guess I should have specified that the election is on Tuesday.

Re:

That is great news to hear that you have it in your hands. Good luck on your election :) You are also going to get a workout carrying "A Game of Thrones" around, it's so thick, pages and pages of good reading :)

Not a problem, I will wait for your feedback on Rennard.

Yes, it was a very restful weekend. During the week I'm so busy and worned out but I don't realize it until I hit my bed on the weekends and find that I can't get up, lol :) What about you, my friend? How was your weekend?

Hey, Brian, I'm really happy that you like the pencils of Rennard :)

Wow. I REALLY like that last pencilled sketch - the one where the soldier is looking sideways at the reader (viewer). It reminds me of film footage taken for news reels from Vietnam. For some reason, it just gets me.

I hesitate to do this, and ruin my reputation for "reading" the drawings.

But, concerning Rennard: his full figure, both in facial expression and in posture, make him seem quite stern, autocratic, and combative (especially his clenched fists). In the detail sketch, however, his eyes make him look a bit introspective. I'm not sure if that is a contradiction or not.

As far as the penciled page - beautiful. I very much agree with dwndrgn about the sketch at the bottom of the page.

Re:

dwndrgn: I'm really happy that you like it, my friend. How are you doing by the way? You know that last panel really gets to me too, I think it's something about the eyes...

littlemissattitude: Hi there, friend, how are things? Again you've got another character sketch down perfectly. Question Do you collect art? Is that why you are so good at reading the character sketches?

Have a nice and safe weekend guys :)

Hello, Khan...Everything is going well, thanks. I'm still recovering from working on the election (it was a long day), but the weather is nice and my writing projects are progressing slowly but surely. And yourself?

No, I don't collect art - that takes money I don't have at the moment. But just wait until I get rich from my writing...

. I do love art, though, and I've taken a couple of art history classes. I particularly like Renaissance art a lot, and - without trying to sound disrespectful - I think there is a definite similarity between a lot of the church art of that period and the graphic novels of today. Both endeavour to tell stories with pictures. I mean, look at the Sistine Ceiling (which I have to use as an example, because Michelangelo is my favorite artist). What else is it but a progression of images, telling stories from the Bible? Creation...endowing Adam with the spark of life...the expulsion from Eden...and so forth. The difference is that modern graphic novels also use written language, while Renaissance church art depended on the viewer's previous knowledge of the stories being told, the priests' explanations of the stories, and the symbolism (which was very much codified) used within the paintings by the artists.

Hope you have a good weekend, Khan.

Re:

Hi, my friend. I'm happy to hear that you are recovering from election day. I'm not doing too bad. I've just been working hard at making sure that everything is getting ready for all of the fantasy authors that we will be adapting.

Oh you don't. Hey, we all on this board heard that and you'll have to buy us all a fancy car when you're rich, lol :D I knew that you had to have some kind of art background for you to be able to read the character sketches. I saw the Michaelangelo movie, the one that Charlton Heston played in. It was pretty good. Did you ever see that movie?

Hello, Khan...Yes, I saw "The Agony and the Ecstasy". Well, it wasn't a bad movie, but the casting was horrible. I know that Charelton Heston had a lock on playing all the heroes and geniuses for years, but he was just too tall for the role. If they were casting for size in a movie about Michelangelo, they'd have to cast somebody like Michael J. Fox, as Michelangelo was only about five foot two or three.

Rex Harrison was pretty good casting as Julius II, though. Suitably fierce. I would recommend reading the book the film was based on (same title), by Irving Stone. It's a great book, very well researched but also a well told story.

I hope you all aren't holding your breath about the car, though. It isn't easy to get rich in the writing game. Well, if you're Stephen King, maybe.

But I'm working on it. Which reminds me, I need to get myself to the library soon. The day's almost gone, and I haven't gotten nearly enough done.

Hope you're having a good week.

I'll join Brian in saying that this picture is clearly the vision that would pop up in my mind when reading the Legend of Huma. Do you know if the comic will be available in french too? You know that my daughter is growing to become a fantasy adept, and my husband would be thrilled to read them too, unfortunately both don't speak english.
