I prefer your original name Danae Dunn.

I often wonder about names and their personalities, do they match? In some of the books I have read, the name of the character seems at odds with their traits?

My other thought was that this name sounds very familiar! Perhaps in the Irish tales of Fionne or Bran?

I also like Alle as a feminin name.

Just opinion, better character names...

...are names that more people will more likely pronounce the same.
...are names that reviewers will more likely spell correctly.

You honestly believe this? I honestly don't give two tosses what the reviewers say. If they spell the main characters name wrong then they are obviously poor reviewers. And it matters not if we pronounce the name wrong, why would it? :)

True very true. But you're talking about being published and I am merely thinking about how best to write a story. The chances of me ever getting published are zero so I do not pretend to be interested in reviewers. I just want to write a story, I don't fancy the publishing game.

In the end, Lace, who knows your world and your characters better than you -- therefore, who knows better what would be an appropriate name?

And that goes double if you aren't aiming for publication.

Just to throw in my 2 cents

I liked Jin Waters. Cant say why, just struck me.

There was a series of books I read as a child that were a kind of young-adult science fiction whose main character was named Danny Dunn. He was sci-fi Encyclopedia Brown kind of guy.

Thats what Danae Dunn reminded me of at least :p

Alle Dene is more appealling to me because it sounds french and i love french stuff well im sorta addicted to it anyway

In regards to Danae Dunn, which is probably the best name, you could just replace the 'e' with an 'i' bearing an umlaut, or even just a simple y. Of course, this is me assuming I've been pronouncing it correctly.

Danae is great and as long as you like it go with it. I agree that Jin waters is a much better name for the side kick, but again is your story. buttrick just reminds me of baldric from black adder. just my 2p

Agreed. He was not meant to be such a big character initially.

I also like Danae, but if you think it sounds too feminine you could add a D or an N to the end. Danaed / Danaen. This makes it much more masculine, though you may want to change his last name so the two don't sound so similar. Danaed Bram for example.
Hope this helps.

Robin:)

Personally I liked Fendal Lynn, and your origanal name.
I dont think it matters at all what other people think of your charectrs name as long as it 'feels' right for you.
I know how difficult in can be coming up with the right name for charecters and places and have often used many a side of A4 just for one name!
