Just on the point of the realism of young children being trained as killers - It makes a worrying amount of sense. It's a proven fact that it's easier to learn new things at a young age than when your older, and children are far less likely to question the moral implications of slitting peoples throats, throwing them out of windows, poisoning their food etc.

Arya takes after Lyanna, who is reputed to have been quite a looker.
If you're into horsefaces. No offence, AU.

Arya:
Arya has no adults looking out for her, and nobody to take her hand and lead her in the right direction.

Got to contest this. At first Arya has Yoren: then, although she is alone for a while, she has the BwB. And all along she has Gendry, who while not an adult provides a level of protection and companionship that Sansa would have given her left arm for.

It's interesting to compare the two girls: they really have a lot in common, as well as a lot of contrasts. Both, for example, see the world in absolutes of good and bad to start with, and have to wrestle with the concept that there are shades of grey. Both are alone for much of the time, with few people they can trust, and in constant danger of death. And both seem to exert a strange fascination on older men. ;)

I like Sansa as a character.

Arya is easy and you can find her character in dozens of other novels. She's the main character in many Mercedes Lackey books. No offense intended to fans of which I include myself.

She's the never give up tough Tom boy type, fun to read but the only development in her is in her skills and not in her emotional makeup or character.

Sansa on the other hand was doing what she thought was right and proper believing, as many sci-fi readers believe, in the basic goodness of people and the dream of nobility and honor.

There's only been a couple of foolish things she's done, and they've had devestating results, but she's shown bravery on more than one occassion and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to survive.

It's easy for a rock to be a rock. It's much harder for a rose to become a rock.

I agree pretty much with asdar here. There's more development in Sansa.

D'oh! Voted Arya when I had read only AGoT! Arya is certainly the better character there.
