Clueless, United

I must be an authors nightmare- not only do I get upset at authors for "preaching" at me (particularly Piers Anthony and Orson Scot Card, but there are plenty of others) but I'm forever getting annoyed about technical errors and inconsistancies- and I can do this for three books a week, unless I'm travelling, in which case it's more.
Fortunately, as a pleasant and polite person (who was that? Come on, own up) I don't often impose my opinions on anyone else, particularly not the author.
The only author who's preaching is quite 'visible' to me is Spider Robinson. Since I agree with most of his ideas, it doesn't bother me. What does Piers Anthony preach about? I've read quite a few of his works and other than the obvious 'one year of service for one answer' one I can't think of anything.

Oops, did I just reveal how clueless I am? Again? Sheesh.

No, dwndrgn, I was wondering the same thing. It's been years since I've read anything he wrote, but the only preaching I can really recall are his rants about publishers in his authors notes.

On a similar note, my dad refused to continue watching 'Top Gun' because all the scenes in the planes were a)not the planes they said they were, and b)not technically possible...or something like that.

:) I've never watched Top Gun, but it has nothing to do with planes or technical accuracy. I've just never had much use for Tom Cruise.

Well, in his autobiography he does seem to be preaching the religion of St. Piers the Martyr ...

Starship Troopers , by R.A.Heinlein. Always thought it was an accurate mirror of RAH's view of the cosmos, never crossed my mind it could be a satire on the militaristic USA of the time.

(And, come to that, having read just about all of his output, still don't think it's anything more than the way he thought - backed up by some of his letters in the book published by his widow, Grumbles from the Grave.)
