WoT=boring?

I have read all of the books and I will agree that some of it was a bit difficult to read and quite possibly some of it could have even been left out, but never once did I feel as though what I was reading was not "related with the main picture". A twelve book series is an astonishing accomplishment in Robert Jordan's life and the story, over all, is an excellent one.

I'll hold judgement until the end. It seems like a thousand loose threads are hangin out there. If he can tie them all up in an enjoyable way I'll praise him.

Right now I'm having doubts.

You got to admit,it has it's times when it's just to dull to read.
If by "has its times" you mean "the last four books", I agree. :)

yeah it has at time become dull but I hope these will be drawn together I haven't read the 11th book yet but I have my fingers crossed its going be good so far its seems mainly possitive the feedback

Book 11, Knife of Dreams I did not find borring at all in fact I quite liked it.
So you only have to read through three or four meandering, plotless books to get to the next good installment? Not bad!

Hey, I am not trying to be some fanboi that worships this author. I am only saying that some of the books in this series are excellent and if you like the fantasy genre you would be doing yourself a favor if you were to read them, and I never did find any of the books to be "plotless", though at times I did feel as though the story was "meandering".

What Shoegaze99 said! Boring has hell and unnecessary to boot! That's why I quit reading after book 7.

Then how do you know it was boring? I thought book 10 was the only really boring book and that wouldn't have been to bad if we didn't have to wait so long for book 11, and it wasn't really boring as much as it was a giant prologue.

I haven't found any of them boring...Have only just purchased Knife of Dreams and really looking forward to reading it....:)

well I would still recommend them to everyone but book 10 was a bit naff nothing happened but I reading them all again in the build up to me getting book 11 I just reading through book 6 again

That's just what I usually do Jason. With the wait between books, the other various books read during that time, it is nice to brush up on the previous characters and the situations. :)

Well...that's a good point. Book 7 made me so angry I vowed to quit reading them, even though a friend gave me Book 8 for Christmas the year it came out. Until Book 7 I was captivated by this series.
My "boring" accusation came from friends who read books 9 and 10 - so, it really wasn't my opinion but theirs.

I still have to say though that this series could have and should have been wrapped up much sooner than the projected 13 books.

Thanks for the correction! :p

Slow I think is the term to use here. Some people enjoy snailpace novels - some people even enjoyed Crossroads of Twilight. Personally, I found the last few books (I've read up to CoT) very boring, very slow and very pointless. The first few were entertaining, but derivative. One real problem Jordan has is not just that he overdescribes with a limited vocabulary, but also that he can't write action scenes particularly well. It just isn't engaging when he's saying some random name of a move that no one can understand in a sword fight. If it had been a trilogy it would have been quite good - probably deserving of a place in my top 50 reads, just about. As it is, the series has just deteriorated into below average.

I want to make this clear - I like slow books, I like descriptive books, I even like meandering or plotless books - eg Gormenghast, Invisible Cities and Book of the New Sun. The problem is that Jordan isn't a good enough stylist to pull it off, his characters aren't great, and they are unkillable, his worldbuilding is only superficially deep and the plot is very predictable. Expanding that into 10,000 pages isn't necessary. If he was doing something totally original, or writing a series that was truly excellent in other ways, the slow pace could be forgiven, possibly even enhance the series. But the problem is that his prose uses such a limited vocabulary that his description serves no purpose.

I generally agree with Brys on this one.

For me, WOT started off with a bang and depsite the dreivative nature of the early books I really enjoyed them. Sadly Jordan then suffered from a real sag in the devlopment of his storyline in particular in later books, so we can only hope that things finish with a bang. Brys is 100% correct, Jordan just isn't a good enough or skillful writer to be able to meander along adfinitum and still keep one riveted in the way a master writer like Gene Wolfe would be able to do.

My only fear now is that with Knive Of Dreams now out and only one Book to go that he'll end up contriving some rapid fire finish that may be in danger of feeling too rushed in comparison to recent books, thus providing the overall series with a very uneven pacing.

although I haven't read book 11 YET I would be gutted if this came to pass I completly agree with what gollum says 100% this is my only worry about this story I hope really that the whole of the last book is the last battle blow for blow almost. Everyone says 12 books is the last book but I read a interview on tarvalon.net ages n ages ago after I first read book 10 and jordan said 13 books???

I read the first few with earnest then began to skip whole sections of the books to get to the characters and parts that were holding my interest. At first it grabbed me but when the plot began to splinter off I found it hard to keep enthusiastic.

Zzzzzz...Zzz..Z..zzZ..Oh I was just skimming through Wheel of Time. Sorry. What are we talking about? Oh is WoT Boring? Yup.

More recently he seems to have consistently been saying it wil be 12 books but how he's going to pull it off w/o it appearing too contrived I've no idea!!..

Let's hope the final volume is twice the avarage length of the other books, anything less might be a travesty...
