Hummn maybe book 12 title: The Last Battle Part 1, Part 2 and so on? This way he could write like 12 more! And we'd get to read a lot more about Elayne and Aviendha playing patty-cake in the bath and Elayne smirking at Birgitte through the bond telling her the tub is just not big enough for all three, just think of that! :D

And is Rand the luckiest guy ever? Surely its not that wound that never quite heals that gets him sick all the time when he channels, the source being clean now and all. It has to be the thought or Elyane, Min, and Aviendha waking up one day and realizing that they really are all in love with the same guy and coming for his head. Its got to hurt way more to get your head lopped off then a hand, at least I'd think that to be the case! Also the head is kind of final no matter which "head" they'd be after! Thats gotta hurt! :eek:

I think the last book's going to be called "A Memory of Light". I don't know when it's coming out though - or whether it will actually be the last book (remember WoT was originally planned as a trilogy, then as 5 books, then 8, then 10 was certainly going to be the longest it would be, and now it's looking like it might even exceed 12).
 
I read through the first 4 and a half with eager anticipation and excitement. I bought book 6 and about a quarter of the way in, I found I just couldn't go through another one, it's just too much hard work.

I really feel that this series could have easily been condensed into many fewer books, say 5 maximum!

I've tried to re-visit Rand and co but just cannot face another book where hardly anything happens and what does happen is only a small part of the bigger picture.

I've since read the blurbs to all subsequent books and have got the gist of what eventually goes on!

However, saying that, I will keep trying to continue reading them, purely because I hate leaving anything unfinished and once finished, I am hoping to be rewarded with a magnificent showdown of an ending (we all of us deserve one).

Right now though, the forecast isn't good.

From a reported meeting with Jordan.

On October 18 2005 at a book signing at West Chester, Jordan gave a working title of the 12th book as A Memory of Light. Apparently this is only a working title, as it could possibly change by the time it is published. He also threatened that the final volume of the saga "could be 2000-page monster" as one of the visitors told Dragonmount.com, because he has so many dangling plot threads to wrap up in a single volume. Jordan also said that he has already been working tightly on the installement. He also mentioned the possibility of several 'outrigger' novels, a reversal on previous comments, that he will conclude his work on the world with the prequels. After he finishes work on the main plotline, he said that he will think about the idea and then if he finds it suitable - he will start work.

According to Tor, with the end of the series finally in sight, Jordan's agent Nat Sobel says that he and the publisher are pressuring Jordan “in the nicest way possible” to try and complete Book 12 so that it can be out within 18 months.

After WOT?

Jordan has mentioned several times that he plans another fantasy series set in a different kind of world. He has said that it will be a Shogun style series about a man in his 30's who is shipwrecked in an unknown culture and world. The books will detail his adventures there, and will be titled Infinity of Heaven

He has said that he will begin writing these after he finishes his work on the twelfth and final main sequence book of WOT. Jordan said, "Infinity of Heaven almost certainly will be written before the prequels, though I might do them between the Infinity books." Also according to dragonmount.com Jordan plans to write some side-story novels, before completely abandoning his decade-long work.

Thus work on this saga isn't expected to begin before 2008 at best. Jordan has particularly stressed that this series will be significantly shorter than the Wheel of Time saga (about 6 books long and essentially two trilogies).

We'll belive that when we see it, right guys!!

Aye but with such a slow build up to the climax I really think he has set himself up for a nearly impossible task of being able to write the details of that final showdown in any sort of way that satisfies the general population of his vast number of fans.

It almost has to be a let down because by now we all have this totally unrealistic idea of what it should be,and really that is entirely his fault because of the slow pace of this otherwise good story. This will be the ultimate test in terms of his ability as a writer, period. If he pulls it off and it is even remotely satisfying he could suddenly be hearalded and the "god" of the fantasy genre once again and then really be deserving of such praise.

Personally I wish him nothing but good things and I truly do hope the last book is one that deserves his 'reserved" spot at the top of the New York Times Bestseller's listing. Why? Well of course because then I would really want to read it and feel the need to do so.;)

boring is such an understatement. i can't think of a better word to describe it. monotonous pointlessness? perhaps :)

i can't stand to read them agin, when i read them the first time, i skimmed a LOT and i still had a fair idea of what was going on. i dunno, its not the lack of plot or excitement that was the problme, it was the total lack of development or interesting conversations. nothing jumps out at me from the last 6 books. its a blurrrr.

so yeah. boring. definetly.
 
Not only will I buy the final volume of the series, I will also be getting any further series that he will write. I enjoy his light and easy way of writing. It makes a change from the more serious fantasy....
 
In my humble opinion, there is one reason I can think of that almost everyone gets bored by book 7 - because its where the plot is almost centred around one of the Forsaken for a whole book (book 6) and then you still have to wait until the end of 7 until he dies.
