I thought that the prophesy was a sham brought about by the emperor's sith lord trainer (and seriously, if the only way to propagate your order is to kill the person training you, how do you know they've taught you everything you need to know? wouldnt they hold back something as a kind of life insurance? Then you still kill them anyway and with each successive generation knowledge and power are lost) who found a way to create life with the force (which leads one to speculate that he created Anikin via the force, to full fill his "prophesy")

I think its a warning not to bring about what one believes to be one's fate just because one believes it.
