Darren Shan

I would say they are aimed at over 10 year olds. Probably would be to violent for very young kids.

His official website looks spooky, Rune. I haven't heard of him either.

His site does look spooky, I rather like the look of it :) I read somewhere that he's a lover of large spiders.
Despite the look of the site, his vampire series is for YA's. Not sure about his new stuff as Ive not read that yet. I do intend to get his newer books, eventually :D

His photo, and I can't remember which site had it on, he has a rather large spider on his hand.

There's a large spider in his vampire stories too :)

i loved the darren shan saga it was a great well thought out plot abd well descried.

i like the demonatra better though the language is better and the describtions are more horrific

other forums had teachers who said they read it to their year6 (10-11 year olds) and gave some of them nightmares

Im hoping to get my hands on his new series in the new year :D so good to hear it's better.

I read them, but though the plot was certainly engaging enough, I found that it was rather too simplistic, and he killed my favourite character off (Kurda) way too soon.

Besides I have my own precise notions about what vampires look like.

Im currently working my way through Vampire War trilogy by Shan. Dont ask me why I enjoy this series so much, but it's really entertaining me :D

Ive just got my hands on Lord Loss which is the first book in Shan's new series :D Looking forward to reading it :D

dont forget his latest book slawter which im reading and is so far amazing lol

I have seen some of his books in my local WH Smiths, and after flicking through the pages a little didn't find a hook. My impression was that it is just Harry Potter with a vampire. Is this a bad assumption? Are they worth giving a go?

These books arent like Harry Potter, they are about a young boy, but he's definately no Harry Potter.
