Leaving books unfinished

I never felt there is something wrong with leaving boring books unfinished - these books just were not meant for me, so I put them aside and go and find a good book that is waiting for me.

i have heaps of books on my shelf that i'm partway through. some i'll get around to finishing, others i'll probably end up giving away because they're not my type lol. life is way too short to waste time reading something that's not interesting you.
okay, i just did a quick count, there's currently 10 unfinished books on my bookshelf, but those aren't all of my books i have a stack more in my cupboard because my bookshelf isn't big enough! out of those 10, i can see myself finishing maybe 4 or 5.

Since I'm permanently short of things to read- too fast a reading speed, too accurate a memory- the eight or ten books I've got that are waiting to be finished must be pretty dire, but I'll still hang onto them in case of genuinely dire emergency (although I'd be more likely to reread something more enjoyable)
Strange about LotR; I ordered the trilogy from the library as soon as I was in the adult section and staggered home with it on a friday night, and didn't stop reading it till I'd finished it all. Sleep, chores, homework and food got shorted that weekend. As I wasn't talking to my parents at that moment, nobody noticed, but I suspect I was a little distracted in school immediately after.;)

Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. Have reached Book 6, got about a quarter of the way through and just couldn't take anymore, it's too long a series for what I expect is a story that can be condensed into fewer books. It's a shame as I really enjoyed the first 4.

Not a book but I felt the same way about the Star Wars Prequels. Could easily have been 1 and a half to 2 films and would have been much more enjoyable that way too.

xx
