Arya's last pov chapter AFFC

Eddard believed in killing a guilty man himself and not making another person do it. Ironic how Arya is going to become an executioner. She'll be killing people that others have concluded are guilty. To survive she'll become what her father despised.

Is her physical blindness a foreshadowing of the blindness of morals that an assassin needs?

She's going to become just like Jaqen. He was in chains and bound for the Wall... to kill Ned along the way. Yes? What will Arya do when she finally realizes this... that her teacher, the old man of Braavos, actually took a contract to kill her father and that Jaqen was the one to have killed Eddard? The fact that they did not actually get time to carry out the deed may be immaterial to Arya.

It's been speculated that Arya might be given the contract to kill Jon. The similarities between the impending clash between Arya and Jon reflect the previous hit on Eddard by Jaqen. What will Arya do?

Do you guys think Arya will completely give her heart and soul to the Faceless Men? Will she rebel against them at a later date? Or will she end up half-Stark and half-assassin always tormented and torn between her two lives?

I still hold to the possibility that Arya will be given the contract to kill not Jon but Dany, thus becoming one of the three heads of the dragon that Dany needs.

You think Arya is actually going to become a killer eh?

If memory serves Nymeria was a warrior-queen. Not a killer-queen. Maybe Im taking the wolves names too literal (Jon isnt literally a ghost or anything) but I always saw Arya as becoming some sort of mercenary commander. The Stark blood would rebel at being asked to be an assasin...much less actually killing Jon.

I dont know, maybe she starts the My Little Pony adventure theme park island or something, Id believe that before I believe she accepts a contract to kill Jon.

I like the sound of Arya as a Killer Queen. With gunpowder, guillotine, dynamite or a laser beam, she'd be guaranteed to blow my mind. Anytime.

Sorry, that's just a little classical reference for those able to appreciate it.

Arya might not accept a contract to kill Jon, but she might accept a contract to kill the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch if she doesn't realize who that is.

Plus, I don't know how much we have been told about how the Faceless Men operate. It may not be a question of picking and choosing contracts - it may simply be that you are sent to assassinate someone or other and you have to obey your orders. Obedience certainly seems to be part of their training.

Her keeping Needle and not completely forgetting who she is and where she came from and who's on her revenge list is a big clue that Arya will never completely become a killer-for-hire.

She keeps the Tears of Lys

In a pretty cabinet

Let them eat hot pies, she says

Just like Walder and his get.

A built in remedy

For Loras and Margaery

At anytime an invitation

Bronn won't decline.

Caviar and needlework

Sandor is such a jerk

Extraordinarily nice

She's a killer Queen

Dragonbone and Valyrian (pronouce Va-lee-ree-yen)

Stick 'em with the pointy end.

Guaranteed to blow your mind.

Anytime.

That's how I see... but then I haven't thought much about it. :)

I may be looking for conspiracies in too many places, but I need to ask... Who is the waif?

In the three Arya chapters in AFFC, there is an unnamed character that Arya thinks of as "the Waif".

She is there when the "Kindly Man" greets Arya.

She and Arya teach each other rudiments of each other's language. Arya is frustrated that the Waif picks up the Common Tongue of Westeros far quicker than Arya learns Braavosi. The Waif admits to being thirty-six years old. The Kindly Man tells Arya the Waif's appearance (I take it he means height, i.e. her growth was stunted... I also take it that she can change her appearance like Jaqen) is due to poison.

The Waif teaches Arya about poisons. The Waif also tells Arya about herself.

In a nutshell, here are the facts about the Waif:
Her family was ancient.
Her family was noble.
She was an only child.
She was her father's heir.
Her mother died.
When she was six, her father remarried.
Her stepmother was kind until she had her own daughter.
Her stepmother poisoned her.
The healers of the Red Hand saved her life.
Her father brought her to the house of Black and White.
Her stepmother was killed.
She is pale and small.
She is now thirty-six.

Could this Waif be from Westeros?

Her age appears to be rougly the same as Arya's... she was probably between 7-10 when she was poisoned. She says she does not remember her mother. She learns Westerosi quickly.

If she left Westeros as a child and had been speaking Braavosi only for at least twenty-six years, then she'd have forgotten her native tongue. Perhaps it started to return when she spoke with Arya.

She is from an ancient family. She is her father's heir.

We do know that the laws of inheritance in the Seven Kingdoms favor the eldest son... except in Dorne where the eldest child inherits. Could she be Dornish?

The one thing I did not tell you is that the Waif told Arya that she lied about one thing... and then she said she lied about lying. Arya never found out if there was a lie in the story or not.

What could she have lied about? Her gender. Her stepmother's death. Her family. Her physicians.

If she can change her appearance ala Jaqen, then the easiest lie is about her gender.

I don't know what all this means. But the story sounds eerily similar to Sam's... and the Waif told this to Arya after Arya met Sam.

And something on Arya's blindness...

Arya goes blind after drinking the warm milk with some potion in it. We know this. But it's after she finally is able to see through part of the Waif's deception that she is blinded. Could the Kindly Man and the Waif have judged Arya ready to use her other peceptions now?

Just thinking out loud here...

Tywin, iirc from a Jaime POV, tried to marry Jaime to Lysa Tully... and Jaime mused that instead of him she ended up with a man as old as her grandfather.

Jon Arryn is characterized as an old man desperate at the time of Robert's Rebellion to get an heir. I seem to recall he'd been married before Lysa... how many times?

The two most ancient and powerful of the Andalish families in Westeros are the Lannisters and the Arryns.

Could Jon have had his second wife killed for poisoning his daughter? Ironic then that his third wife killed him. Could the waif be a possible heir to the Eyrie?

Not much to grasp, TK. I'm just poking around... mayhaps I'll stir up something in your mind.

Wait? You actually want to stir around in TKs mind and see what pops up? Seriously?

Youre like to get various Star Wars quotes coupled with 80s pop songs in some sort of bizarre Frankensteinien combination...but I digress.

To stay on point....this is as far a reach as youve ever made. So its probably the one thats going to hit. Theres really no way to support or deny it because its so far fetched.

You were serious about that? That wasnt a joke?

Bahahahahahahahahahahaha......

I need to conspire....err breathe I mean.....bahahahahahahahahahahahaha....

Deep conspiring......bahahahahahahahaha

You just made my day...thanks Boaz

I aim to please, Egg... though I was not really serious about Marg.

I was rereading AGOT last night. Remember when Arya gets lost and overhears Varys and Illyrio? Just before that she blunders into the hall with the dragon skulls. There is hardly any light and Arya gets scared by the "monsters". As she runs on, she runs out of light.

If the room with the monsters had been dark, the hall was the blackest pit in the seven hells... but even when she gave her eyes time to adjust, there was nothing to see... She wiggled her fingers in front of her face, felt the air move, saw nothing. She was blind. AGOT - 342 (US paperback)

Just like her last POV in AFFC. She was blind. Under the Red Keep, Arya controlled her fears and did better in total darkness than she did in semi-light where she thought she saw monsters. Mayhaps, this is a foreshadowing of rapid progress that Arya is about to make.

If I can digress (because I have nothing else of worth to say but prefer to goof around), Aegon, I found the perfect song that is now stuck in my cavernous head and I hope it will now get stuck in yours and everyone elses:

Yoda by Weird Al Yankovick (sung to the tune of Lola by The Kinks)
I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda
S-O-D-A, soda

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him for his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda"
Y-O-D-A, Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a muppet, but he's wrinkled and green
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I left home just a week before
And I've never ever been a Jedi before
But Obi Wan, he set me straight, of course
He said, "Go to Yoda and he'll show you the Force"

Well I'm not the kind that would argue with Ben
So it looks like I'm gonna start all over again
With my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

So I used the Force
I picked up a box
I lifted some rocks
While I stood on my head
but, I won't forget what Yoda said

He said, "Luke, stay away from the darker side
And if you start to go astray, let the Force be your guide"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

"I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed"
Oh, my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
Oh with my Yoda
Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda Yo-yo-yo-yo Yoda
