Sorry to blow the dust off of this old thread and into everyone's eyes but having just finished my re-read of AFFC I was also struck by the fact Cersei's mid-section is definitely getting bigger through the book.

yes - could certainly be drawing a comparison between her and Robert - as she was doing some serious drinking by the end - but I have to admit the first thought I had was that she was pregnant.

Either way, it was an interesting detail I either missed the first time around or didnt pay much attention to.

With them being Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen.
Thatswhy i never really believed her to be pregnant.

However she did once have a child with Robert Baratheon, as mentioned in the TV-series, that she had aborted.

thinking on that, it might be indeed possibly she is pregnant.
This can mean several things:
1)Ultimate proof she had some outside her marriage bed.This mught be used as prove against her by the High Septon.
--> Problem with that: Robert is long dead, and there is no reason why she can't have some till before remarrying.
2) If she is pregnant her setence may end up being prolonged. Very like female pirates where not executed till after they had given birth.
3) Cersei will have a miscarriage.

4) And most interesting: Since Cersei is prophesized to only have three children, one can make the connection that if she is pregnant and wishes to have the child, that she won't be able to let it come to term. Meaning she will be dead before her child is born, meaning she has less then 9-10 months to live since the babe's creation, and since pregnancy is only visible around 4-5 months (unless i remembering it wrong) she only has, at best another 4-5 months to live. With her self-destructing, the coming of dany (the younger and more beautiful queen), and Jaime reborn (with him possible being the Volanqar - a theory more likely since we know that Cersei was born first of the twins, and that Tyrion is now across the narrow sea) i wouldn't be surprised to see her dead in adwd, or at the beginning of the very next book.

But if she is preggers, I rather think that Cersei will abort the pregnancy. Carrying the baby to term would further cast aspersions upon her fidelity to her marriage bed. That is something that Tommen does not need.

the prophecy doesn't say she will only have three children EVER, just three children. A child of cercei's now would leave her with Three Children. Since one is dead... Prophecies are always open to interpretation, and are NEVER black and white and crystal clear.

Cersei forced to get rid of the child by the Sparrows if it will be a *******. Especially one fathered by her nephew Lancel. Remember that since his brush with death, Lancel has become very pious and is often seen in the company of the High Septon.

OR, this could just be GRRM showing the effects of being in such a position of power on a person. It did it to Robert (well, he did it to himself really). We have all seen the pictures of world leaders before coming to power and after.

Is it possible that Obama impregnated Cersie? That would be a huge twist and could test out the new health care system. If the baby between these two wouldnt be enough to let everyone know that she has been sleeping around, i dont know what will. She wont be able to hide the genes on this one no matter what color the baby's hair is

To be honest, this was not a notion I had previously considered. I always took it as she was getting older (metabolism slowing down), drinking a lot (hello unsubstantiated calories) which was generally just leading to her beginning to lose her famous beauty. Because let's face it, what does Cersei have without her beauty? (And clearly she's got a thing about someone else replacing her for "most gorgeous creature the Seven ever deemed to create *ever*" as evidenced by her resentment of Rhaegar choosing Lyanna over her, and of everyone speaking of how beautiful Margaery is.)

But the notion of her being pregnant again is totally feasible actually. Ironic to think that Joffery's "replacement" quickened on his funeral bier.

I'm agreeing with Lyanna. I think that these details on how Cersei is getting bigger is the start of her downfall. Cersei indeed does not have anything except for her looks. Sure, she has the money of Casterly Rock but I think that falls to Kevan Lannister, or perhaps Jaime.
