Firefly - Possible Season 2?

Would they be able to find someone as drool-worthy as Nathan Fillion? Someone who can act goofy, noble, dark, irritating, flumoxed, totally focused, protective, needing protection, or quietly heart-torn--and all the shades of expression in between?

Will they find a cast that loves to work together, that loves the work itself, that truly loves the world and the characters they play? The dedication I've seen from the actors far surpasses anything I've seen before. They just seem to honestly love working on Firefly, and I think that would be the hardest thing to reproduce, were you to try making it down the road.

Yeh, Finnien. It's the "lightning in a bottle" problem: hard to catch it twice.

Give us more Firefly--now!

Ive only recently become a Firefly fan..love it:D

I found the best song inspred by it the other day done by 'escape key'
Its called 'Mal's song'. It is dedicated to the cap'n :)>) and the chorus is the lyrics from the Firefly theme. I have a live version and her voice is beautiful

Anybody else heard this? i love it:D

Hmmm, this reminds me,...must get round to watching Serenity *toddles off*

Teir, where did you get the song? Who is "Escape Key"? (OK, I admit it: I'm clueless about music.)

Escape Key is an acoustic trio that performs mainly at science fiction/fantasy conventions apparently :)

Look down the page till you see the title 'mal's song' and there should be 2 mp3s underneath...the song i just put a link to is the 'basement studio' one...the other one is slightly more huanting and is the one i found originally (and the one i like better :>)...i believe if you right click on the word 'mp3' and 'save target as' it will download if you want it :)

Shiiiiiiiny! Teir, that is a most excellent song! It really focuses on Mal, and the lyrics include lots of what happened in the series--way better than songs that just elliptically reference Firefly. Thank you! My heart is happy now.

I haven't been able to save it yet. I'm using a Mac, and I listened to it in Quicktime, which wouldn't let me save. I'll try it on a PC later today.

Remember what genre your dealing with. Nothing is impossible. Maybe the new episodes will take place before the old. May they'll find a creative way to bring them back.

Actually, Joss Whedon has mentioned in an interview that Book and Wash are dead for good. He further stated that the Firefly/Serenity universe is not like the Star Trek universe, when characters die, they stay dead. Besides, resurrecting Book and Wash would cheapen their sacrifice. However, Whedon has also hinted that they could return in a series of flashbacks or dream sequences, but that's all. The one good thing about killing off major characters is that it allows the writer/s to introduce new and interesting characters into the mix for us to care about, and take the story in new directions. Sure, its easier to kill off characters that are unlikable, but when you do so with likeable characters, it makes more emotionally compelling. Plus, killing off major characters creates the impression that no one is safe, hence, the suspense factor is kicked up in high gear. This is what makes Firefly/Serenity unique and I hope we never lose that.

On either the Serenity DVD or the FireFly DVD extras Josh Whedon states that Firefly/Serenity is unique because it was the only program that was cancelled but brought back as a movie because of a movement by the fans. (Hint: Star Trek the Motion Picture) I love his product, but he may just be full of beans

Star Trek wasn't a cancelled TV series - the film may be due to pressure from the fans, but it wasn't exactly a failed TV series. Sadly, Firefly was - that's why it was remarkable that Serenity was made.

I just finished watching Firefly, which is now probably my favourite TV series. Some episodes weren't that great, but most were very good and there were a few that were brilliant (eg Out of Gas, Ariel, War Stories). I would love to see it continued, though the loss of Wash and Book would make it very different. They could always do more episodes between the end of Firefly and beginning of Serenity - hopefully the high DVD sales of both Firefly and Serenity will make Fox (I think) reconsider showing it again.

Hooray, Brys! Another convert! "Out of Gas" is definitely one of my favorites, too, as well as "War Stories." (Mal, pushed to his physical limits, protecting his people . . . )

Yes it was... cancelled after the third season.

"Police Squad" is another example of a cancelled TV series that later became a film ("The Naked Gun", and its sequels), although I don't know if there was any kind of fan campaign associated with that.

I think Joss Whedon might have meant in its first season - ie very early on. Firefly was cancelled after 11 episodes - Star Trek had been going for some time. But I take your point.

I had never seen Firefly until recently. When it aired I was working second shift and didn't get to see it. I saw Serenity when it came out on DVD, then I went to my Video store and rented the entire Firefly series. I am now a huge fan and I think it was one of the best TV series ever!

i dont think it will ever happen. i would love to see another film, even str8 to vid, but i dont think so.

Beg to disagree. Star Trek was canceled after the third season because of the manner in which they took ratings numbers in the 1960s. The demographics were good but the total numbers weren't. The difference was that Star Trek went immediately into reruns and was kicked around between a movie and a revived series for nearly ten years before the movie was finally made. I see the major factors being so similar to require the parallel to be drawn. The differences can only be told by time.

I dunno if it wll ever happen either - not sure I'd want it to unless it was the same as before in most details. But then again, is this how devoted trekkies felt before TNG came along?

I, too, would prefer to have the same cast, same ship, and same dynamic. But I have so much faith in Joss that I'd take whatever version of Firefly he can give us, even if significant details have to change. He could make a variant work.
