Conan

True. There hasn't been a new one in quite some time. I'm not sure that's a bad thing. Some of those pastiches were truly, truly, horrible. The ones written by Robert Jordan especially.

Some of his Conan books were decent.

Don't know what any of the post Howard Conan's are like.
But I've read a few the short stories, really enjoyed "The Tower Of The Elephant".

where have all the Conan pastiches gone?

With all due respect to fellow Conan fan im glad the Conan pastiches are dead and gone and no new ones created for many years. Im Howard fan since 2006 and i have all his collection that was new printed by Del Rey and co so i never had reason to read any pastiche stories.

You guys can always read the old paperbacks i have heard about but as Howard purist im glad there is only his words, books that fans talk about these days :)

Ive read them and can see the striking differences between then and the ace editions.

I have to admit, Robert Howard's books about Conan were some of the first fantasy books I read back in the early to mid seventies. I didn't become an avid reader until after I was married. And that was with the influence of my beloved, and well read wife, Jane.

In truth, I loved the Conan books. I've read many of them more than once, some more than five times. And I still hold a deep fondness and respect for them. They were some of the great early books that got me hooked on reading. So I can only recall them with a deep feeling of appreciation.

Robert Howard, Terry Brooks, and a handful of other authors are responsible for giving me the desire to entertain others through my writing efforts.
I'll never take their writing, or their stories for granted, or consider them less inspirational than anything that is written today. They filled my heart and mind with an excitement and joy that I'd never anticipated or considered possible.

If you haven't read any of Howard's "Conan" stories, do yourself a favor. Find some in a local used-books store, and enjoy. You'll be glad you did.

How I found the Ace 12 volume with stories by , L Sprague de Camp , Lin Carter and Bjorn Nyborg I read all 12 in quick succession. They were great stories. Some the best Fantasy I ever read. (y)

I read many of those stories, as well, BAYLOR. And I enjoyed them immensely. I still have them in my library. For a number of years, L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter continued the Conan stories. I just wish Robert Howard had lived. Who knows how many more great stories he could've written?
