Great news Mark! I would presume that the German market is a large one, given the population of the reunified Germany, so you can presumably look forward to some strong sales there - or doesn't it work like that?

Patrick, I'm delighted to get a deal in Germany, as I understand there is a huge market for fantasy books there. I would hope that both series should prove very popular. There is also neighbouring Austria, into which I assume the books will be distributed, as the native language there is German as well. It's certainly the biggest overseas market that I've tapped into so far, so it's all very exciting.

I understand that Simon & Schusters have offered my services to the German Publishers for promotional events. Whether they will go with this, I'm not sure. I'd certainly like to do something over there if given the chance. We'll have to wait and see.

Another deal closed this week. Pocket Jeunesse in France have acquired the rights to Imperial Assassin. Although they still haven't published Imperial Spy, they have bought the rights to the second to demonstrate their commitment to the series. Very good of them, I say.

Just gained news that a deal has been struck that will see the Dragon Orb books distributed in Turkey. I have no details as yet, but all deals are good news as far as I'm concerned.

Joel, that is a positively awful joke ... but it made me smile anyway!

The details are through. All four Dragon Orb books are to be translated and published in Turkish. The publisher is Mandolin Yayin Yönetmeni - don't ask me how to pronounce that, as I haven't a clue!

On another note, I see that the Danish version of Imperial Spy is now on sale with the intriguing title Kejserens Spion, which I'm assuming is a direct translation of the English title: Kejserens spion

Geographically it's big, Patrick, but no, this is not a 'big' deal in terms of numbers of likely sales. However, all these little deals add up. Every territory I move into expands my market and sometimes authors become 'big names' in the most unlikely places. I was chatting to another fantasy author recently who said their books didn't sell very well in the UK, but they had a huge audience in Sweden. It's a strange old world.

Another healthy deal has been sealed in Europe. My French publisher for the Imperial series, Pocket Jeunesse, have just agreed to buy all four Dragon Orb titles. My grin is currently broader than this smiley!

It's certainly been a fantastic start to the year, Scalem. Now if I could just get a deal in the US ...

I suppose I'm in danger of appearing greedy, but getting a US deal seems like the Holy Grail at the moment, only more illusive! I'm not quite sure what I've got to do to impress the publishers over there. It's a strange conundrum. Ho hum. I'll keep writing, I suppose. If I write enough books, then by the law of averages someone in a US publishing company is bound to like one of them eventually.
