GRRM posted this on his Update page of his website.
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will feature all the characters that you (and I) missed in A FEAST FOR CROWS. Jon, Tyrion, Davos, Dany, and Bran will all be present with major storylines, and toward the end of the novel Arya will appear as well, as will Asha Greyjoy. There will also be one new viewpoint character debuting and one old returning, giving me a total of nine POVs, plus the usual prologue.
I'd like to guess (and I want you to guess also) as to who will will be the new POV and who will be the returning POV.
The New:
Since the events of ADWD are supposed to shed light on what is happening away from King's Landing, South and Central Westeros, and the Iron Islands, I'd say the POV must be about The Wall, North Westeros, Beyond the Wall, the East (the Free Cites, Slaver's Bay, Asshai).
Dalla and Val are interesting choices for the Wall and the Wildlings.
Osha might also be an option to clue us into Rickon, the northern nobles, and the Wildlings.
Jorah is a possibility for the East. What if he returned to Magister Illyrio? Jorah could clue us in on Illyrio's and Varys' actions and motives while still trying to finish his own agenda of getting home.
Quentyn Martell might also be an option.
Then again the character might be wholly new to us. A servant of Illyrio. A Faceless Man. Someone who holds the secrets of adventuring in Valyria.
The Returning:
There are four POVs from prologues and epilogues... Will, Cressen, Chett and Merrett, but I don't think these have any... merit. There are three main POVs from the first three books that have been stopped... Catelyn, Eddard and Theon.
It must be Theon. But I'm willing to hear arguments for Ned and Cat.
