Martin and Jordan?

I have to say I found Jordan to be fine until:

Nynaeve tugged her braid the hundredth time.
Egwene and Elaine? drank tea/ changed their clothes the billionth time.
An entire book was written about people looking up and staring off into the distance.

Utter crap.:p

Very Succinct Arya. Well Done :)

Hi Guys - Totally new here on the forum , even first post ever ;-)
Just wanted to let you know that after reading this thread I decided to go back and reread Jordan. Up to book 7 now and actually lovin' it. Maybe it's youth sentiment? But now I'm totally screwed because I know that after Book 7 the whole thing goes to hell. Was pleased to hear that some of you are saying that book 11 is showing improvement... Maybe I'll buy the book then after all - if I can get trough the next 3 ;-)

So that's it - wauw first post ever - very impressed with myself...

I had Jordan highly recommended to me and had obviously heard the name before so I spent my ten dollars, bought the first book and was completely and utterly bored.

I know Jordan is a popular author with a great many books and fans and to be fair I didn't finish or read the subsequent novels so maybe they were great, I don't know. However I found that NOTHING happened during the first half of the first novel. So, for me, seeing this complaint that Martin's fourth is like Jordan's fifth isn't something that I consider to be correct because Martin started his book with action and instantly hooked me.

Now I enjoyed Martin's third the best but I still found the fourth interesting and there were advances in plot. It's not my favourite novel but I still found it very well-written. With Jordan I didn't care about the characters and I didn't see any plot development. I was very very sick of this hair braiding and circle stuff by the time I finally packed it in.

So personally I greatly disagree with this comment and generally there are a few lesser chapters in a series. I mean the second Indy movie is the weakest link. I liked A Feast For Crows and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I struggled through Jordan's first book. I was vaguely interested by his 4th and by the 11th considered his works to be entertaining in a TV-soap kind of way. With Martin, on the other hand, I am rapt.

PS- apparently Jordan's next book will be his last. I would just love to know how on Earth he intends to wrap everything up.

I predict an easy ending: Nynaeve will go bald and braidless, they'll run out of tea and their clothes will no longer fit. What else would there be to write about?

Ya know....sometimes, in the haze of excrucating pain of the Bowl of Winds or whatever that one was I forget how much I enjoyed the Wheel of Time in the early books. The I realize how much I enjoy Martin now.....

I will now go light myself on fire.

Dearest Arya,

you forgot after nynaeve's baldness, rand suddenly develops a condition that no longer allows him to blink.

I must admit i have been laughing for days about your last post on this thread.

I read this too quickly and thought you were talking about Arya's wolf Nymeria. ;)

Nynaeve and Rand are still alive after 1,452 books? Amazing!
