Horcruxes. The remaining.

ye, but what about other fan fictions? ive read a lot of published fanfics from the sci-fi genre that been published w/o copyright holders permission. for example star trek/wars and sg-1 for one

What's your point? If you've read published works in those particular universes and they were released without permission of the copyright holder, than they have a legal battle on their hands. But, you also have to remember, Star Trek, Star Wars and Stargate are much the same as the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance and Eberron, they're worlds in which authors are given permission to write and submit their works to the respected publisher that owns the rights to those properties. This is a completely different concept you're referring to. That's why you'll see new authors writing in those different worlds. You wont see that happen with traditional series/epics as the author, not companies like Wizards of the Coast, own the rights to their work.

Anything related to HP. (Previously Horcruxes. The remaining.)

Yes but this is JK we are talking about. She gave film rights the first time asked. With my basic and very limited knowledge of her, my thing would be she says yes to anyone.

Yes but this is JK we are talking about. She gave film rights the first time asked. With my basic and very limited knowledge of her, my thing would be she says yes to anyone.

With somewhat above average knowledge of her mentality, taken from the countless interviews she's done, I'd say that's far from true. JK wanted the movie to be made. It's merely a representation of work she's already finished. Letting someone else write in here universe, given here attitude, is far less likely. I'd go as far to say she'd even chuckle at the idea.

y would she tho, the films aint that close to the book, and the scenery changes in each film. its like what they do with a lot of sff books, she might actually welcome other authors writing in her universe as a sort of continuation of the story from other peopls point of view. cmon look at what happened with star wars, lucas let authors continue after 6 to see if they can create a world after his imagination

you have a point to what you say, but i have a point also. so dont downplay or slander what i say. this is a forum not a g8 conference

As far as representing the story, the films have done a better job than most films of the same ilk. Of course, this is subjective, and the opinions differ amongst fans, but they've been received quite well. There are, of course, certain aspects of the work that have had to be left out, including entire sub-plots, because it's simply too difficult to fit everything into a movie without increasing the running time exponentially. Despite this, Rowling has been pleased with the results. As for the Lucas reference, he's an entirely different monster than Rowling. George's attitude toward expanding his universe is one of fervor, we have yet to see this same mentality from Rowling (and I don't think we ever will).

I'm debating your point, much in the same way you're debating mine. You can't consider my counter-points to be "downplaying" your own without also being guilty of that yourself. Though that's really a moot point, because I don't consider offering a counter-argument downplaying in the least. As you said, this is a forum. As far as my being slanderous, I take great offense to that. I've not insulted you or demeaned you in any way. I've simply offered my side of the argument, while trying to maintain a level of respect throughout. If something you've stated is untrue, I will correct it, and if you see those corrections as personal insults, than I apologize, but I won't change what I've said. I don't really understand what you mean by "g8 conference," so I'll leave that one untouched. And unless I'm actually making an attempt to personally insult you, which I haven't thus far, I'd like to request that you discontinue making accusations about my intent, as they are also insulting.

:( I seriously think you guys need to calm down. The whole point of this Forum is to have "fun" and bring our understanding of J.K's world to a higher level. You people are taking these comments the wrong way. Listen , every one will have contrasting opinions and thats where argumentitive discussion comes in and not as a means of insulting each other.

You can't consider my counter-points to be "downplaying" your own without also being guilty of that yourself.

I agree with commonmind.

I saw the trailer (and made a thread devoted to it, as well) and (as I said there) I wholeheartedly agree. I'm almost as excited for the movie as I am for the book...almost.

Can someone change the name of this thread, I cant edit my first post. Change it to something like "Anything to do with HP books and films" because that is what it has become.

I agree with you Common, possibly the best HP film. It looks awesome though a lot different from the book just in the trailer.
