to become a moderator send a private message to padders expressing your interest. there are some guidelines(minimum # of posts and all that) i think if you look in the ascifi forum part of the threads(like way back in the main menu) there should be a thread telling you the requirements...but padders will tell you also.

as to the pictures, they're called avatars and are available after a certain number of posts(i can't remember how many...sorry)

anyway on the top of the page you'll see a drop down menu with 'change avatar' on it. click on go and see if it lets you have one...you can either choose from over 100 images or upload one of your own (50x50 pixel limit on size)

i think there is also a thread in the forum section on this too...just can't recall where.

if you ever want a change you can look for little pics on other sites and upload them(they just have to be 50x50 pixels or smaller)

Hi, I believe you need at least 500 posts to be able to create and use your own avatar.

For those with questions about avatars and html code usage, I've found Padders FAQ link (at the top of the page) to be really useful. I didn't use it until I'd been using the forums for about 4 months (sorry Padders )

padders made a 500 post minimum to be moderators just to be sure he basically 'knows' his moderaotrs.
it's to be sure that you're a good upstanding member of the forum that's gonna hang around and not be moderator then disappear.

and, hey it doesn't have to take you long to hit 500...they'll add up faster than you think
