Who went to gatecon 2000?

Arrr, jsc you are so good at that welcoming thing - what would i do without my friendly moderators??? :)

But yeah, welcome to the place. It is nice having you are here i hope that the board can become the sort of gatecon question and answer place, especially when we have this co-branding thing in place (but ask Allan about that :) ).

Thank you folks for such a fine welcome!!! Makes a body feel
loved & appreciated... hehe
And thank you Allan (you stinker)for letting the whole world know that I fell down & went "CRASH"... The story goes
as follows...
There was a room behind the registration desk that many of us were using for one thing or another. A sliding glass door seperated the two & the track for that door was raised in the air about 3 or 4 inches. I had gotten a list together for Sue & was going to go give it to her. I gathered all my paperwork, soda, notebook together & walked out of the room or tried to anyway... my toe got caught in one of the tracks & down I went... Fell full flush on my right knee & found out later that I had also crashed into a metal chair, cracking a couple of my ribs on the way down...
The thing was.. I was feeling so good about having no major injuries at the con & what happens... I'm end up being the first "ouchy booboo"; talk about embarrassed to death...
It was a real hoot to later that day get called up on stage but oh how nice it was to have JR Bourne & Jay Acovone help me down (& get an extra kiss from each just because)...
I don't think stunt women are supposed to get hurt, are they? It was a heck of a way to get some attention... LOL but they (everybody) wouldn't let me out of that darned wheelchair... ucko
So there you have the story of the biggest flop at being a stunt woman in history...

Our Corner of the Gatecon Universe

Hey everybody,
Well its great to see everyone here. It really is amazing how one show can connect people from all over the world and allow them to share its successes with fans and stars alike.

Well I can say that although being downunder and generally getting things a little later then the rest of the world, it is great to know we have Allan here to keep us up to date on everything. (well done Aussie Tok'ra)

Our corner of the Gatecon universe may be far away, but the support we are getting is absolutely fantastic. It was great to experience Gatecon 2000 and find soo many fantastic people who want to hear your own experiences.

I know i'm blabbering on a bit, but it just needed to be said that there are people in the world who respect you for who you are, and I certainly found that out at Gateon. Well done everyone and hope to catch up with all of you next year at Gatecon 2001.

Cheers

Rod

Thank you Ladytree for sharing your difficulties with us.

It is a horrible way to be layed low even for the extra kisses from real hunks who are also really nice people!

Broken ribs are agony when one breathes or LAUGHS! and there was plenty of laughter and companionability at Gatecon 2000. NEXT TIME if you have to fall let Dan Shea do it for you. Hope all is better and rapidly healing for you and thanks again. We, of course, are going to make much over the fact you GOT KISSED SO MUCH!

was another one of the lucky ones that got to attend Gatecon 2000. From a Canadian's 'financial' aspect the weekend was very reasonable ... not eating lunch for 3 days cause you might MISS something can be a good thing :)

I'd never done the "convention" thing before this, and was just blown away by the approachability of the stars ... besides a few minor glitches the weekend was a rip roaring success, IMHO.

Didn't wanna do it, but ended up getting a 2001 ticket ... dang! ;)

Hi to Rod and Fryn!

Gatecon 2K

Hey Mingo great to see you again! :)

Well I shall be doing my utmost to get another ticket to Gatecon 2001 so I can see you all there again (hopefully).

Cheers

Rod

hi back, Rod! ... anyone that didn't get the chance to meet Rob missed out on a debonair well spoken natty gentleman!

The whole weekend just went by so fast, there just didn't seem enough time to really sit down and talk with everyone. Most of our socializing happened in queues! LOL

I'm hoping that will change with a more convention savvy mingo next year!

After our drool bucket immortalization by Teryl at SG-2, I'm gonna have to step up to mass production for Gatecon 2001! LOL

awwww shucks Mingo *blushes*

Well all I can say is that it was not only the volume of people there that was soo great, it was the high level of "friendliness" that really astounded me.

Apart from just enjoying the show, being in the company of such wonderful people was just amazing.

I am so honoured to have met so many of you and seeing that next years Con is one day more, then hopefully it should give us more opportunity to mingle and chat.

Wow :)

Rod

Hey there. I also want to say how much I enjoyed the Gatecon. Cudos to all of the organizers. My friend Max and I have already signed up for 2001 so hope to meet all the people we didn't get to this time. Of course we are lucky enough to be living in Vancouver so it isn't as hard for us.

Hi Aussie_Rod! Weren't you the fellow I talked to on the bus tour? (I was the know-it-all Canadian across the aisle)Hope you can make it back next year.

Cheers!

mmmmmm......debonair well spoken natty gentleman!

Rod, i've heard you called a lot of things, but never that. :p

Actually, I have to say (as a fellow Aussie, and i'm sure Rod will agree) That absolutely everybody (pun) went out of their way to make us foreigners feel welcome. I was totally impressed with Canada and Canadians (except the customs guy who stopped short of a cavity search), they made us aussies feel so welcome.

Gatecon 2k

Oi! I have my good qualities. I was very well behaved :)

Hmm well Lynx if u were on the Bus with the "Alien-Guy" on it (no. 2 i think) and was waaaay down the back where we could here absolutely nothing at all, then yep that was me (we had the US Horse-lady in front of us) :p

Yeah I agree 100% with u Allan on the treating-well part... And what was the really interesting thing was that when travelling into US Customs it was very very quick with minimal questions (which I thought was wierd) and when we got to Canada, the Customs Officer almost did a cavity search on me (but I had a female one so it wouldn't have been as bad) :)

Cheers

Rod

Customs searches

Try very hard to avoid Israeli customs if they're having a bad day, Allan.

They get *very* creative... {almost missed my plane coming back from the dig this summer because a smart mouth next to me wanted me to camment on an item he was trying to get through customs. They thought I might be with him ... Oy!}

hey Allan, stop picking on Rod! ;) just cause no one called you natty! LOL

anyhow ... I was on bus #2 ... and obviously missed the "horse lady???" ... but I sat right behind Randall and had a fun time prodding him for information ... which btw he was very hesitant to drop the bombshell until the time was right ... but my fellow drooler had figured it ALL out before then ... cudo's to mac1!

I agree that the four day format ... if one of those evenings is free to do whatever you choose, would be much better for the socialization of Gatecon. Being a hick I was just completely awe struck at being in a big city!!!!

I wanna do the big party open house woop up in a Suite next year ...

p.s. Lynx ... received the articles ... you didn't tell me what you wanted for them!!!!!!!!! And be creative hey! :)

GateCon 2000 & Beyond !

Well Hello friends ! This IS Ralph Rosson, you know the tall guy sometimes wearing SG outfits at GateCon. First off- Hi Richard, Fryn, Allan, Rowan, Rod & any others i missed that i know from Gatecon !
This is my first time here and i just wanted to post a quick hello and Again thank all those involved in bringing Gatecon (the Dream) to life.
I've been to many-MANY Sci-fi cons - BUT NEVER had as much fun and met sooo many new friends and seen so many actors or ever been to filming locations as i Did at Gatecon 2000 !
Whooo Hooo ! I'll be there in 2001 and hope to catch up with you all again. Although the location of the Radisson presented some problems for handling the venue, i still liked being there in Burnaby ! Although i didn't Stay at That hotel (I stayed at the "401 Motor Inn" up on Boundary Rd.), i enjoyed being so close to the studio and i think that Burnaby was a very safe pleasant local.
It wouldn't bother me a Bit if it was held in the same location...but that's up to You guys ! Next year I'll have Wheels so I'll be able to tool around the city if i like. Thanks and Hats off again to all the Staff- for making it the Highlight Event of my year !
BTW- Rod....Tiffany says Hi !

Gatecon 2K

Hey Ralphy great to see you matey (Yippee!)

Well as you can see most of us round here had an absolute ball at the con. It was only my second, after a not-so-flash one here in Australia a couple of years back. But the good news is that Teryl, Chris and Don will hopefully be out here in February and I will most certainly be there to say hi to them all :)

I think one underlying fact helped make Gatecon 2k such a success was the fact that everyone got on sooo well with each other. Be it actors, organisers or fans. That is the mark of a truly fantastic convention.

So well done again!

See you at GAtecon 2001

Rod
PS: Thanks Ralph, have made contact with Tiffany

Friendly little nook you have here :)

Hi again, and WOW, you guys are friendly ! Now i know that everyone i met at Gatecon was nice - but it also seems 99% of all STARGÃ…TE SG-1 are Super people ! :)
And Rod, I now wish WE had More time to hang out and have fun :) (i.e.-get into trouble). And I'm soooo looking forward to next year. I have to explain that I'm NOT new to Sci-Fi conventions as I've been attending them for many-MANY more years that I'd like to admit-usually doing between 4-8 per year ...for umteen years (won't say or you'll KNOW I'm ancient !). But I think that activity will be tapering down to maybe ONE or Two per YEAR and One of those will Most definately be GateCon ! :)
There are Sooooo many reasons I Want and NEED to go to THAT Con. ! From the City- which held special meaning to me even before GateCon (long story), to the GC Staff who at least one of them has become a very dear friend (Fryn), To the magic of all the studios and productions that come out of that area, to the Wonderfully nice Canadian people and All the dedicated fans who came from all corners of the globe to meet and share there common interest in SG- and Last but Not least- the wonderful Cast & Crew of STARGÃ…TE SG-1 who are the nicest, most talented, dedicated, gracious & Compassionate group I've ever met from ONE Single Show !!!
Like I said ... I've been doing this for a long time but now it's time i have to cut back for several reasons. But I'm so glad that STARGÃ…TE and the Cons promoting it have come to be. It's Now like a HUGE family of friends getting together for a reunion & Awesome Party ! *YIPPIE* :)

But the bus tour was ..... the pits!!!

Hello from xst! I was there and had a terrific time except for the City Bus Tour!!!

This is for Richard....

The con was great, but you gotta get better people for the bus tour! People who know what you want out of a Stargate con!!! like ME! a very nice, proud, fanatical Stargate-loving Vancouverite! The bus ride through the scenic parts of town was OK, but the guide left out tons of tid-bits and info about specific city sites where episodes were shot.

eg. we went right by the site where Daniel came out of the water in "Fire & Water" (Kitsilano Beach), where "Bane" was shot (Plaza of Nations), the hospitals used for scenes in "Tok'ra, parts 1&2", "Legacy", "In the Line of Duty" (I can even point out the specific doors, windows and wards used in filming), example of the sulfur pits in "Cold Laz", Daniel's apt in "Holiday" , the dome for "Gamekeeper", the bridge in "1969", etc, etc, etc.

Mind you, the company was a specialty "X-files tour company", and they showed us sites for X-files and Highlander, but, darn it, I want Stargate. I was in the third bus sitting with max (of maxlynx) who is also a Vancouver native. We were giving a different (and better! :D) tour for the people in the back of the bus than the guide from the front. And the tour guide insulted max's city of Coquitlam. The guide on our bus didn't know his Vancouver history or geography! Let me do it next time!!!! We can have lots more fun, I promise!

OK, my rant is over now. Yup, I had a great time otherwise. I met lots of very terrific people and didn't get much sleep at all. The mark of a good con!
