Fav Character (David Eddings)

Ce'Nedra is my favorite. It's easy to be brave if you can use the Word, but doing without magic is what I appreciate.

Here I must disagree, Valerie. Ce'Nedra may have been brave, and that is commendable, but she was a whiny, manipulative little......I can't finish that. I would have to say Velvet was a better character along those lines. Or, at least, Ehlana from the Tumuli books.

That only proves a quite believable characterization. I like her for that. Not the shiny superhero, but a woman with all her faults. However, I can understand your line of reasoning.

i too find it difficult to understand how anyone could even like Ce'Nedra, much less have her as their favourite Eddings character. For me, she has absolutely no redeeming qualities... indeed, her bravery is chemically induced (polgara's tonics anyone), but if it is her own, then its barely a positive...even the most reprehensible people can be brave.
My favourite Ce'Nedra moment comes right at the end of PtS. Where, having just finished Polgara's autobiography, she comes to the realisation that Garion was not nearly an orphan. his family was the oldest in the world. That Garion not merely outranked her, but transcended her. that was ultimate come-uppance for the little princess. (i derogatively call her "princess", since she never acts magestically, she is no true Queen. For a true queen, see Porenn, Layla even, or most especially Polgara).

might i add, that in no way should this be taken as a h8 on anyone who DOES like Ce'Nedra, just my reasoning/ranting about my dis-like for her :)

;) ack.

Maybe it's how you see the question - is it my fav characterization or the character I'd like to be friend with?

I've only read the Diamond Throne - wasn't impressed by it but I would say Sparhawk is quite a cool character.

Sparhawk was really nothing more than an older, more mature Garion. With a broken nose, I might add. From the Elenium, I would have to say....it's rather hard to say, actually. Flute, I would have to say, after a couple surprises about her are revealed.

After reading the entire Elenium, I would have to agree. When the book started though, Sparhawk DID look pretty cool. I thought, for a couple of chapters, that The Diamond Throne would be a departure for Eddings to something edgier, but alas, it was not to be. An older version of Garion, and quite a bit tougher, but Garion he was.

meh.

Yeah, Eddings has taken some heat around here about the similiarity of his characters between his Garion/Sparhawk books. And if you've read the Rivan Codex, he himself said that he would often be thinking "Garion" when he was wanting to think "Sparhawk".

But back to the original, out of every single character of his that I have read, I would still probably have to fall back on Silk as my very favorite.

Poor Ctuchik doesn't seem to have any votes, I don't think, hehe. :D

Silk was an amazing character as was Garion, however my favorite would have to be Belgarath. I agree with who ever said that they would want an grandfather like him. Though having an uncle like Silk would be awesome as well.

Durnik and Silk as bet they both would like real ale and both be a good laugh :)

Personally my favourite character in the mallorean is Zackath:cool:; he is epically awesome and I think that the friendship between Him and Belgarion because it shows that not all Anggaraks are evil, stupid, misformed or worship Torak. Also having Belgarath as a grand father would be totaly Kool. out of the the E and T i think its a toss-up between Krager or Martel because i think they are such well made character and i am sad that they both died in the ways they did:(. Btw this is my first post.

Belgeriad/Malloreon - Definately Silk and Durnik - I love these guys, always make me laugh and their just ownage.

Polgara - Hard call but I think Beldin and Ontrose - I don't know why though.

Belgarath - Aldur is a definate and the man himself.

Sparhawk series - Kurik, Ultah, That troll priest i forget the name of, Sephrernia, Anirae? and Talen and last but not least Aphrael - To be honest it was hard finding characters I didn't like in these series.

Also this is my first post - registered today when I saw this result when I was searching Ultah haha.

My favourite character would have to be Longbow from the dreamers.

How can he never miss a target?

Belgariad/Mallorean...: Very hard to pin it down to one person. I'd have a different one each day. But today my favourite is Beldin. His unbridled love for those closest to him is undoubted and tries to endlessly hide it with his grumpy nature. His union with Vella was my favourite part of any book I've ever read...:(

Althalus...: Gher. He reminds me of olver from the Wheel of Time...:)

I am just reading The Diamond City and I have to say,Sparhawk is my favourite Eddings character, with his horse,Faran, close behind.(No pun intended, but it's quite funny.)
Eddings is one of the greats, when it comes to sci/fan.
