Don't know where to post this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place!
Have you guys been to Starguide recently? theres an article about Micheal Shanks saying how there probly won't be another series after the one they're filming now (S5)(I would link it but i don't know how), followed by another article about Joseph Mallozzi (writer & producer) saying that MGM & Showtime haven't decided whether to continue it or not.
What's to decide???
apparently if MS doesn't want to continue (playing Daniel) then they'll probly finish the series, which is just plain mean, to put it *very* mildly!

Yeah i read that today, i decided to be nice and ill post both articles here :)

Michael Shanks is online this week, visiting his official online fan club (M.S.O.O.F.) and dropping a bomb on SG-1 fans. The Daniel Jackson actor said today that "Stargate SG-1" will probably end its television run with the upcoming fifth season.

"I think most of you should know that this year we will be filming what will probably be the last season of 'Stargate SG-1' on the television," Shanks said. "But as you are also probably aware, there is the likelihood of a feature film of the series. Don't ask me too many questions about this as you may know more than I do on the subject, but you should know that there will NOT likely be a sixth or seventh year of the series."

While Shanks' comments are not absolutely conclusive, he certainly does have some say in the matter. Should the actor not wish to renew his contract, it seems unlikely that the show would continue without him.

Padders' i am impressed, ms official home page is hosted at ascifi.net :) pretty goddam kewl :)

well heres the Joseph Mallozi interview...

SG-1 writer and producer Joseph Mallozzi has offered the following thoughts on the show's longevity, prompted by Michael Shanks comments yesterday that "Stargate SG-1" would probably end after Season Five (2002):

"To tell you the truth, I was just as surprised as you were by the quote -- especially considering we have received no official word from MGM and, in all honesty, no indication of whether we will do another season or not. I can see how one could make the assumption that we MIGHT not be coming back for a sixth season -- but then again, there was similar talk around the same time last year. If the show was cancelled, we would be the first to know because we would need to plan ahead and start tying up loose ends."

"In short," Mallozzi added, "no need to start worrying."

MGM and Showtime have made no announcement yet as to whether or not the show will be renewed for a sixth season -- but that decision will need to come soon.

Um that is surprising it has to be said. Personally i think it will stay on. Unlike a lot of shows, all the characters are replacable and although it would be a big blow to loose any, i think any of them could go (perhaps not jack..) and it could survive.

If they do a film which it appears they are i would think that would make it more likely they would keep the show going. It certainly appears to be doing well and is definitely not become stale like some shows, i can imagine it is getting more and more popular.

MSOOF, yeah cool on http://www.ascifi.net. It used to be at http://www.gatewatcher.com/msoof/ but don't know what happened to that, GW dosen't seem to be updating and hastn't answered my odd email either.

Speculation aroung the net is that MS is saying this because he's hoping for considerations; MS, AT, and CJ all want out, etc. etc.

CJ said at the London convention last year that they had all just signed for season 7. This probably means that they all signed options for up to season 7.

For one, I will believe it only when I see it happening. ;)

Cheers,

what do you mean "options up to season 7"? so he wants more money.... hehe.. not surprisingly really..

Yeah but if ur saying that all 'cept RDA want out then surely the show can't go on without all of them???
But if they've signed 'up to' Season 7 ... WOOHOO!

we all had a long discussion partially about this last year on...uh uhm...that other forum. anyway all the principals were signed to a 5 year contract. now rda has publically said he's wanting to cut back a bit cause he wants to spend time with his daughter. and being both producer and star takes a lot of time so it seems reasonable that jack might get scaled back since the producer job seems to be a bit more upscale.
as to ms wanting to leave, well the general concensus last year was of the 4 he seemed the most likely to leave. mainly cause he seemed to be generally bored with his role(true or not, i don't know, i've never met the guy)
from what i've read at and cj are more than willing to stay, cause hey it's steady work and that's a rare thing in actor land.
if any of the co-stars want smaller roles, like fraiser and hammond, that's pretty easy to do, just introduce another character to help fill the void, sort of like how dr. warner could be used if tr wants time off.

i personally think this is a lot of fuss. i really hope i'm not jinxing things but, well if you're an actor going in to renegotiate your contract, isn't it a lot easier to say 'pay me x amount' if you have ream of petitions and e-mails from fans demanding the show continue?

(i'm not dissing them or anything but it's a common negotiation tactic. i just wouldn't be dragging out the mourning clothes yet)

skydiver - exactly right ... make a small fuss - leak it out and then before you know it - the fans award you a pay rise to stay on the show - It happened on the X-Files for three extra seasons with David and Gillian so why not Stargate. It would seem silly to me to cancel now - afterall didn't I hear that Stargate saved Showtime from failing ratings wars and ceratinly isn't doing Sky One any harm at the moment.

I know people that are only just getting into the gate and if my hits are anything to go by that's fact not fiction.

I won't be worrying too much yet.

well we have to remember at first they were only signed up for 2 yrs, then it got extended to 4 yrs, now 5

even if it's just a ploy i suppose it wouldn't do any harm to send a letter to respectfully show our support. does anyone have the address? i figure it can't hurt to let people know we really enjoy the show.

Showtime i would think are the people to send it to. I think but not sure they decide on the budgets?

Options are when a person signs a contract saying that they'll be around if there is a need for them to be. ;) It's a way for the studios to lock in a person just in case the show does go that long without actually having a contract that says that they will be making a show for that long. Make sense? ;)

one suggestion:
be nice. chances are the people that are going to read your letter first will be some poor secretary making $7 an hour. the big wigs will probably only read a smattering of them, though they might just ask 'how many did we get?'

and don't just photocopy the same letter and sign different names. that's like stuffing the ballot box and it just tends to have the opposite effect.

in other words a five sentence polite handwritten note seems to carry more weight than a 5 page diatribe threatening universal armageddon if the show ends.

Any chance of an email address for Showtime/MGM/Stargate for us Brits who don't want to pay for postage all the way to America?

And if you happen to come across a J.R.Bourne or Alexis Cruz fan club email address ... :D

This is what I think is going down at MGM its all speculation mind you.

They have known for a while now that MS has wanted out. They will bribe him with enough money or something to keep him on for a season 6 but there will be no season 7. Then by the time season six has completely aired the sgc would have finished of Apophis or some big alien cheese. Then the second movie would air and it would somehow introduce us to a new enemy or a more powerful goa'uld it would also introduce us to some new characters. Then perhaps there would be some sort of spin-off series a year later or something. I think even if sg-1 ends in season five Stargate will have a good five years lefts in it yet weather it be movies, a spin off or both.

And thats my Five Eggs on that.

IT'S ALL SPECUATION

about the only things that are fact is

sg-1 has yet to be renewed for season 6, which should happen sometime this month if last year is any indication(the season 5 announcement came in january of last year if i remember correctly)

all the principals were only signed on through season 5 so there will be new contracts

rda said last year he wanted more time to spend with his daughter(being both star and producer takes lots of time)

everything else, including anyone's opinions on motives etc. is pure guesswork.

Yeah, i wouldn't have thought there will be too much to worry about. Getting them a 2 year contract, now that would be a good idea but i would think somewhat unlikely.

is there any word if they are signed on for the film? i would think they would want to do the film and it is probably a matter of do the series and film or nothing type thing???
