Jack's past (Contains small spoilers)

Thinking of the Lara thing I really hope they don't bring her character back into the show.

(spoiler)

I mean think about it, look how long she took to tell Jack that she heard someone on the radio. I mean the T-Man could of been dead.

She did not even think about helping Jack and what about her own people that could not get home.

Sorry going on a bit:p

I don't think they will bring (spits out the name) Laira back.....coz me don't think she was preggie anyway....she was hoping that she was!!!!

As to Jack and drugs, I think the Air Force experimented on him!!

Jack's past

His comment about the 70's may have been a typical Jack smart-ass comment. He might have snuck into the military with a very small drug history [like weed], but never anything stronger than that - the stronger stuff in the 70's would have deff. kept him out. IMHO, I believe he may have been referring to serious keggers or boozing with his buds. That's a thing the military didn't care about. He would *never* have made his rank in the type of work he does with a drug history - he'd never pass security.

I know how hard they check. I had to have my Top Secret and higher reviewed every year after I made a certain rank in the Army.

If there *is* a drug incident in Jack's past, I'd look toward a possible hospital induced drug addiction to pain meds after Iraq. That's the sort of thing the military will deal with and might let you stay depending on the sevarity [in regards to Jack's comments to Daniel at the end of 'Need'].

i agree more with the 'pain killers' addiction type of thing. especially as much as he's been hurt it would be incredibly easy to start taking them for the pain and end up needing them.

and then it would be a matter of the military 'knowing' about it. ie did he seek counseling through the military or was it one of those 'take six months off jack' type of things.

I agree, skydiver & rowan. And, sometimes, too much can get read into an off-hand remark written by different script writers.

That is done all the time. Just look at all the Sam/Jack fics and how many of them go seriously overboard!

Now I have all the Sam and Jack people in arms against me!

*aims a huge cream pie at jsc*

actually, I kinda agree with some of the fic being OTT, but its all in fun......

Jack's past

If it were pain meds, it would show up in his medical recoreds either for the amount of times a perscription was refilled or when he tried to return to full active duty as the military was doing the 'whiz quiz' [drug urine screening] back then. And even now, the service pulls random 'whiz quizes' to make sure.

So, more likely, it would have been found before he was released to active duty, treated 'in-house' [in the military facility he was in] and, since it would have been because of a botched 'dark side' ops, discretely written up and then sidelined so it would not wreck his career.

Sometimes the service really does try to take care of it's own and this *might* be what happened. I've seen it 'happen' - unofficially.

I can't make any official comments on the fact.

see jack doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would turn to drugs...if he really wanted to destroy himself i'd see him being too impatient for drugs and, well helikes being in control too much to be whacked out of his gourd.

i agree with the military helping him out, either officially or unofficially...especially if it was sorta their fault(anyone who prescribes narcotics has to be aware of how dangerous they are) one way or the other.

and i see jack, sarcasm aside, as being the kind of guy who his bosses would want to fix up...face it, look at him & hammond in chain reaction and tell me george wouldn't have pulled a string or two if jack had been in the same fix?

jack strikes me as the kind of guy who might be an @$$ but is 100% trustworthy and therefore garners a lot of loyalty...

totally my opinion but i could see him not even wanting to take an aspirin again just so he doesn't ever run the risk of ever getting hooked.

Jack's history

I can't see the 'Jack as we know him' using any form of drugs - except alcohol, which the military used to actively and now quietly encourages to a certain extent.

And there's a large difference between what's called a 'pain addict' and a 'pleasure addict'. A pain addict wil take large doses of meds becasue of a medical condition and when that condition is resolved can usually go off things rpidly and with no lasting problems. A pleasure addict takes drugs for the effect... the high. Their brain chemistry becomes adapted to them and it's a long, slow weaning process to get them off... if you even can. Sometimes the chemistry is changed permanently. This is where things like methadone replacement therapy for the treatment of heroin addiction steps in... one drug for another but in a controlled dose and environment.

What can sometimes happen is someone on massive amounts of meds for pain, as the pain resolves, if there is some underlying psychological trauma that continues unresolved [like the aftereffects of being a POW in Iraq], the line between the two blurs and one slips over into the other. This is the type of situation I see that might have happened.

It's this sort of situation the military is the most tolerant with, especially their POW's and the most likely to work with.

Make sense?
