Whos going to GATECON 2001?

I remain hopeful that I'll make it

Today, our office HR woman went to a store, bought out the supply of little American flags and handed them out to the office members. On Monday I made a resoluton to not be afraid of crashing when I got on the plane in a week for vacation. The reward at the end was just too sweet and exciting to be scared. I'd be at something I waited over fifty-seven days for. Then Tuesday. It's Thursday and I'm resolved that mechanical error is not the fear it once was. We will never look at the guy taking the seat next to you quite as impartially as we once did. I'm resolved that if things like this happen where I'm flying to be as those on flight 93. Fourth time was the charm in making the sacrifice and foiling the plot to take a fourth target. I don't think they even knew the towers fell. They didn't know the numbers of people who perished like we do now.

I hope that they build the largest darn memorial ever seen where those towers stood.

Well I have never been afraid of flying and I've been doing it since I was a kid. No damn terrorist is going to make me afraid now!

At the moment I have no idea if my Wednesday flight will be okay. The FAA has announced that only US carriers will be allowed to resume the transatlantic flights at present and I was travelling American Airlines anyway. Hopefully by next Wednesday things will be a little clearer regarding flights and I will contact the airline prior to leaving the house just to make sure. However, it may well be that I end up waiting until the following day to get on a flight. After all, priority HAS to be given to those Americans who are stranded in London and who need to be home to be with their families. And if I was next in the queue and someone from the US was behind me desperate to get home, I would step aside and give up my seat for them.

So hopefully I will make it to Gatecon.... I may be a day or so late, but I will get there somehow!

;)

The paper says that at least one of the guys on board the plane that crashed in Pittsburg knew about the 2 that hit the towers. he was corresponding with the FBI through his wife on a cell phone & told her that he & some of the other pasangers were going to do all they could on the plane. it's because of them that the plane crashed into a field & did not take countless more lives than their own aboard the plane.

I hope I can still make it to Gatecon. My mom has been campaigning HARD to get me to say I won't go....I'm really kinda lost about the whole thing.
My sincerest condoloences to all the Americans on this site and everywhere else.

But you come from Canada don't you? Travelling can't be the reason surely that your mom doesn't want you to go? It should be a pleasant diversion from all of this pain and death..... you should go.

everyone who can make it to Gatecon should go. I am,they say my flight should be ok from the UK

Actually, I'm in Alberta less than 2 hours away by plane from Vancouver...I really wanna go but I think its gonna be a last minute decision.
Anyway, my airline is SOOOOOOOOOO back logged it looks like I'm gonna get bumped :(

Well my flight is going via Dallas and there are hundreds of stranded Americans here in the UK who get priority, which is as it should be of course. But I think I will still get there. It might be a helluva journey but I think it will be worth it.

Well, I just got my bus ticket today, and I leaving on
Saturday.
I really need this trip now more then ever.
I hope that all you that are flying, can make
it here.
I think that we could all use this trip.

Hope to C all of you there.

Alright,
don't all shout at me at once

but in all good consience, i can't go to Canada...we were due to travel via usa...

I can't leave my kids with risk of anything happening to them or me...as the USA is now talking about maybe having retaliation attacks this weekend, also the guys caught with weapons on board american planes the first day they get back.

So no, I can't do this, I wish i could. But for me, My kids and family are more important, Hopefully next year, and with luck...wolf later in the year.

All you travelling, i wish a safe, sound and event free journey, have loads of fun, and have a good few drinks for me.

Aby(devestated)

Aby..... I am sure that all of us respect your decision and wouldn't dream of shouting at you. You are doing what you feel is correct for you.

I don't have much of a choice in my travelling. I have an important meeting to attend in Dallas.... life carried on, or at least it tries to. Then I have an important interview in Vancouver. I travel a lot, and if I let this stop me, then these terrorists have achieved their aim.

Yes it's a risk, but at some stage we have to trust that the FAA have put the correct measure in place to ensure the safety of flights and passengers. But as a former member of the security forces I have to say that 100% security is impossible to achieve. Close to it, yes.... and I am sure that the American authorities are doing all they can to ensure this.

As for the talk about retaliation attacks, well, let us hope that the US have cooler heads than to attack without justification. If they just go ahead and attack from a vengeance point of view, then they will lose credibility with the rest of the world who currently stand shoulder to shoulder with them. The fact is, there is a lot of debate going on about this issue. I hope that America doesn't just go ahead and do this, because it will have a knock on effect that will impact on the whole world.

I think a lot of what is being said is pure rhetoric and I for one, will not allow this horrific event to bring my world to a halt or to prevent me from exercising my right to mobility around the world I live in. If I understand the talk from America during these past few days, then this freedom is what the nation of America stands for and what they are prepared to fight for.

If I end up with a terrorist on my plane, then so be it.... it must be my time to go.

Hopefully I will see you at Wolfcon later on Aby..... we will have a drink.

Take care me dear..... I for one don't think badly of you at all!

aby, hon i'm not going to yell at you....you make the decision you feel is right for you.

i for one an still planning to go...i've planned for almost a year and am going to do my darndest to get there....
all of you that can make it, i'll see you there (fingers crossed) and those of you that cannot or choose not to...there's always next year

Aby whatever descision you make has to be the right one for you and yours. I heard today that my flight may be delayed by a day as Canada 3000 only has 2 planes in the UK at the moment, but eh so long as we get there safely that's what matters.
I hope to see those of you that can still make the trip safe and sound in Vancouver
Take care
Sandra

The decision has been made....Unless there are further acts of violence in the U.S. I'm going to Gatecon. It was a tough decision but I think it is the right one for me. I still haven't heard whether or not my flight will delayed but even if it is I'm going. I hope to be able to finally meet you all in a few days.

I thank you all for your understanding.

I hope you all have a ball...and remember, mines a jamican rum with coke over ice...have one for me..

blessings and safe journeys one and all

aby

we'll have a drink in your honor.. and all the ones who aren't able to come.
as of this morning my flight wednesday is still on...part of me is a little paranoid of risking getting stuck 1000's of miles from home if nasty stuff happens...but i'm not going to put my life on hold because of some...well i can't come up with anything polite to call them.
just as i don't sit home cowering in the basement everytime there's a tornado watch, i'm not gonna sit home just in case something happens.

good luck and safe trip to all you

Amen to that......

My flight on Tuesday to Dallas is also still on up to now..... and even if they change it to the following or the next day, I will still come. I refuse to allow myself to be dictated to. I survived Saddam Hussein, and I'll go where I damn well please. No bloody terrorist is going to make me give up.

I shall be there Skydiver..... and we'll have a drink together for all of those who are unable to make it!!!

:D ;)
