The new series V is to be called 'Enterprise'.

Although not confirmed, it is most likely that the new ship will, therefor also be an 'Enterprise'. This will allow them to have the new Captain Archer do the familiar 'These are the voyagers of.....' at the start of the show, which has got many fans excited. On the other hand they could call the series 'Enterprise' using the literal sense of the word, as the Federation itself will be a new enterprise in space!

We have seen all of the Federation ships called Enterprise already- 1701, 1701-A, 1701-B, 1701-C, 1701-D, 1701-E. This series will be pre-Federation, so they can have an S.S. Enterprise instead of a U.S.S. Enterprise and not break the continuity. There was an S.S. Enterprise shown as a model in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. There is much current fan speculation at the moment about whether this could be the ship. I, myself, cannot see that much detail in the film, but apparently, the ship is more like a space station or passenger liner, with hoops around it, and cannot be the ship.

Any comments? What would you want to see in the new ship? Anyone looked at The Motion Picture with a microscope lately?

well i have heard that the new ship wont have the nacells that the familar enterprise has been known to have...

I am not sure how they are gonna do it... as the technology has changed even since tng... but cant wait to see how they do it

Looks very similar to the Enterprise 'E' to me <shrug>

UPN Unveils Enterprise
May 18, 2001 08:00 CDT

In the first official confirmation of the fifth Star Trek series, UPN unveiled Enterprise on May 17 and offered a brief glimpse of the series, which is described as a "prequel" that bridges today with the time of the original Trek series. Starring Scott Bakula as Capt. Jonathan Archer and Jolene Blalock as the female Vulcan Sub Commander T'Pol, Enterprise was part of UPN's fall-schedule presentation to advertisers in New York. It carries the tag line ""... back to where it all began."

In a video preview, UPN said Enterprise will take place in the 22nd century, about 150 years before the events in the original series and about 100 years from now. The show will focus "on the history of the galactic upheaval that leads to the formation of the Federation," UPN announced.

Enterprise will introduce viewers to the pioneering days of space exploration, when interstellar travel is in its infancy. The titular starship will be more hands-on for the crew, with tactile controls; the preview included no clips of the show, but featured views of the show's still-under-construction tan-colored sets, which include mechanical switches and toggles.

The crew--John Billingsley (NBC's The Others) as the alien Dr. Phlox, Dominic Keating as Lt. Cmdr. Malcolm Reed, Anthony Montgomery as Lt. Joe Mayweather and Linda Park as Ensign Hoshi Sato--represents humanity's first venture into interstellar space. Vulcans are the principal source of information to humans about other space-faring societies. Warp drive has been around for a while, but not very long, and transporter technology is fairly new and proven, but not everyone trusts it.

"Star Trek has been sort of embedded in people's minds," executive producer Rick Berman said in the video preview. "It's been around for 35 years now. There's nobody out there who hasn't heard of a photon torpedo or a Klingon or 'Beam me up Scotty' or warp speed. It's part of our culture. And I think the familiarity of it is something that is very comfortable to people." UPN has scheduled Enterprise on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

well i guess they must be worried about the buget! LOL!

i would have thought it would look somewhere inbetween the Phoenix and the original USS Enterprise... both of those had nacelles, so I wonder why the 'new' Enterprise wouldn't have them??

Maybe it will look like the SS Botany Bay or other SS ships that we saw in TOS....

i posted a pic somewhere... but that was only someones guess... and that had nacells... i am sure paramount will release pics soon

The U.S.S. Essex NCC-173 ('Power Play' TNG), U.S.S. Archon ('Return of the Archons' TOS) and the U.S.S. Horizon ('A Piece of the Action') were all apparently Daedalus-class starships-- a large spherical (saucer) section with two nacelles and the engineering section behind.

These all left Earth about 2167 & 2168 about 100 years after the events in 'First Contact' so they should be more advanced. The new ships needs to either look very different, or else somewhere between them and the Phoenix (which was just an unused nucclear missile.)

CAnt wait to see Pics of this new ship.... my mind is wandering all over the place wondering what it will look like ... Hope it is as good as i am hearing....

Latest 'new enterprise' drawing.

Forget that other 'iam tosk' drawing, I have the real thing here, taken straight from Rick Berman's desk at Paramount.

sorry, forgot to attach it that time. Here goes:

(also there is another thread about 'the new ship' can you merge them into one please.

Neo, it was meant to be humour, like funny even. It IS Thunderbird 2! But it is just as likely as your drawing!

Didn't you read the blurb on the pic. I copied it from yours!

Neo goes and hides in the corner and cringes.... as he feels sooooooo stupid...

does look v similar to E if u ask me... from that angle anyway... but better than the I am Tosk one ;)

Yer lets hope it is like the one here and not the i am tosk one

NO NO NO... i have my eyes closed so u cant see me... so there

Now I don't want to get off on a rant here but...

My big question is how will they keep the sets looking more "primitive" (i.e. toggle switches etc.) without giving it the (by today's standards) cheap look of the original shows sets. Granted the original was state of the art for it's time but that was 35 years ago and technology has advanced greatly. I think it's going to be hard to keep today's F/X savvy fans happy and still keep it within the technological timeline set up by the original series and First Contact.

As for the ship, the picture above is definitely the Enterprise E. I recognize it as a shot from First Contact. The ship in Enterprise is going to be pretty small compared to the ones in the "later" shows just from the fact that if you look back over the first 4 shows and all 9 movies, each time a new Enterprise is introduced it is bigger than the previous one.

Can't wait to see how they do it...
