Actually, I read that the original ship designers went for a more surreal look, rather than just extrapolating current trends, and that is why it hasn't aged as much as it could have.
Obviously, it has still dated quite a bit, mobile phones don't look like communicators, but then they didn't even exist. I admit that there are lots of flashing lights, and no computer graphics; but very rarely do we see any analogue number displays, just compare that with 'Lost in Space'. Instead of reels of tape in the computer memory they have cards to insert, they are not CD's but it is an incredible similarity.
The TNG graphics which have become known as 'Okduagrams' designed by Michael Okudua are never likely to age, because they aren't futuristic at all, they are just 'Star Trek'.
