The New 'Enterprise'.

Actually, I read that the original ship designers went for a more surreal look, rather than just extrapolating current trends, and that is why it hasn't aged as much as it could have.

Obviously, it has still dated quite a bit, mobile phones don't look like communicators, but then they didn't even exist. I admit that there are lots of flashing lights, and no computer graphics; but very rarely do we see any analogue number displays, just compare that with 'Lost in Space'. Instead of reels of tape in the computer memory they have cards to insert, they are not CD's but it is an incredible similarity.

The TNG graphics which have become known as 'Okduagrams' designed by Michael Okudua are never likely to age, because they aren't futuristic at all, they are just 'Star Trek'.

Well i for one am looking forward to see how they design the bridge... hop the seats will be....

Wonder if it will be like how Kirk had it???

Do you think they will have seat belts?

Or will inertial dampers have been invented yet?

Sorry, but I could really knock this retro-trek idea if I wanted to, I haven't even started yet, because I am really hoping that it will turn out OK.

WEll .... I hope they have really thought about this,,,, and just dont go running in hap handed

I have a forty foot one they can borrow.... lol

This German site has some images of what the new ship may look at:

http://drnews.powerweb.de/treknews/newspro-treknews/static/9934714467232.shtml

Apparently, the internet was buzzing about these designs on Wednesday. Both 'Ain't it cool news' and 'Trektoday' think it is more likely to look like an upside down Galaxy or Constitution class ship with a smaller saucer section.

(From 'Trektoday')
"Archer's Enterprise will essentially look like Kirk's Enterprise and Picard's Enterprise - only turned upside down, the warp nacelles and the saucer section now reside slightly beneath the middle section." The site claims that a picture of Kirk's Enterprise should be turned upside down to get a basic idea of the new design.

"Also, expect the middle piece to be wider and flatter than those on Kirk's and Picard's Enterprises, and the saucer to be smaller in proportion to the rest of the ship than we're used to. Look for the entire ship to look flatter, with a very short or non-existent "neck" connecting the middle to the saucer section."

The description is very similar to the Akira class, featured in 'Star Trek: First Contact,' which designer John Eaves said the Enterprise would resemble. The Akira was a computer-generated ship with no secondary hull and a catamaran-like arrangement of its warp nacelles under the main saucer section. In addition, other reports about the new ship design have suggested it will be chunkier and blockier with many of the components held within later ship's streamline silhouettes bolted onto the hull.

if those piccys in that link are accurate, it looks OK, but an upside-down enterpise? why?? Why would they design it one way up then change over, its not like gravity affects the aerodynamics or anything..

The pics are just someones ideas, not from Paramount, but they do look good.

The 'Upside down' ship-- I agree with you. In three dimensions what difference does up and down make. But don't shoot the messenger though-- I'm just passing on what I read.

Also, I'm still really interested in how they get aboard ship without transporters, because none of them look like they could land.

Ship will be CGI.

(from ICARS Network interview, repeated on Trek Today)

<<Foundation Imaging is actually building the ship, but what they'll receive is drawings from all different angles in order to create in the computer what John Eaves has created on paper.

Gross hinted at something new and special for the series opening titles. "From what I've heard, the intro for Enterprise is going to be a bit different. I can't really say anything about it, but it is not being done by us or Foundation."

The visual effects on the new show will not be limited to the ships in outer space. "The entire main cast has been scanned so we can create 3D models of them," Gross revealed. "This will give us the ability to do all sorts of fun things with them and create really great shots. I can't say what you'll be seeing, but expect some great shots over the run of Enterprise!"

The challenges involved in the special effects for Enterprise focus on one particular area. "The challenge is to make it cool and new, yet something that could be a predecessor for what we know will be coming down the road, he said. "We also have to take advantage of the fact that we have the means of creating things that couldn't be done at the time of the other shows, yet keep it all within the Star Trek world." >>

Marvin V. Rush says "What's important about Enterprise is, it's a ship of exploration, and space travel, a fairly new thing in this era. Warp drive has been around for a while, but not very long. Transporter technology is also fairly new, and while it's proven, not everybody in the world trusts it."

Unfortunately, that is not what has already been established in Star Trek. The inconsistencies begin..........

Well, maybe not!

In 'The Masterpiece Society' TNG Geordi suggested that the transporter had been invented "over a century" prior to that episode set in 2368. But if it was invented over two centuries ago wouldn't he say "over two centuries"?

The landing party beam done to Talos IV in 'The Cage' TOS set in 2254, so it was invented then.

'Realm of Fear' TNG establishes the condition of Transporter Psychosis was first diagnosed in 2209, which suggests it was invented prior to this date, but if it was much earlier, why did it take so long to diagnose the illness?

Another image that claimed to show the U.S.S Enterprise appeared online at TrekWeb today. The image (attached) claimed to have been produced by one of the show's special effects houses, and be taken from the opening title sequence. While the image does contain an interesting possible view of the starship, we have been able to confirm that it is in fact an unofficial image, as was previously speculated by TrekWeb in the original report.

Over two months before the new Enterprise will be seen on TV, it will already grace the covers of next week's edition of TV Guide Magazine.

The July 14 issue of TV Guide will feature an exclusive first look at Jonathan Archer's Enterprise. In addition, the magazine will include an extensive interview with series co-creator and executive producer Rick Berman. The magazine goes on sale on newsstands on Monday the 9th of July.

The Enterprise will be shown in a large pullout collectors' poster that will feature the ship on one side and images of all 34 past TV Guide Star Trek covers on the other side. Strangely enough, the poster will apparently only be included in newsstand copies of the magazine, meaning that subscribers will have to buy another copy to obtain the poster.

In the interview with Berman, the executive producer will give information about the ship, the new crew, and the show's technology. A short excerpt was quoted in a press release from TV Guide. "The terrific thing about this for longtime fans is that they'll get to see the development of all the technological gadgetry and capabilities that have become part of the Trek mythos," Berman told TV Guide. "They'll see them in their infant, trial-and-error stages, before they end up being what we know them to be."

TV Guide has a long-standing association with the Star Trek franchise. The first photos from Voyager were also seen in TV Guide, while the series finales of the most recent Trek series all were honoured with a cover story. The writer of those stories, Michael Logan, is also responsible for this new feature.

i am gonna merge this thread as we already have one about the new Enterprise ship and i am getting confused which one to post in....LOL

That picture looks like an Akira class ship to me with red nacelles intead of blue. Everyone is saying that it will look like that though. The current issues of 'Dreamwatch' and 'Star Trek Monthly' both have Akira drawings with a blurb saying that it will look something like this.

I noticed that you closed the other thread. We don't want two threads the same, but I would have merged them so that new members will still see those posts. There are two Data threads in the TNG forum also need merging together.

Good idea Dave.... noty though of merging them... do that now...

As for the Data ones , sorry i dont mod in there

Enterprise Nx-01

There is a picture of the new "ENTERPRISE NX-01" in the new TV GUIDE (JULY 14-20 page 23).

Thanxs for that rod.... Anyone in the US wanna send me a copy...
