I got the Stargate Movie on DVD (Special Edition) and I was listening to the audio commentary by Director Roland Emmerich and Producer Dean Devlin. During the part where they were putting in the symbols into the stargate, this is what I heard:

Roland: "They still use the same graphics on the TV series every
time they start the darn thing up again."

[Laughter]

Roland:"We have NOTHING to do with the series. I just want to
clear that up. WE...HAVE...NOTING...TO DO...WITH the tv series."

I thought it was kinda funny though.

Well I don't care what they think coz I think that the TV series is better then the film.
So there !!!
:dead:

SG movie guys ashamed of the series

You know, what you said reminded me that in Politics, I think, Daniel said that they could stop the aliens with a virus, kind of mocking Independence Day movies. So maybe it was a dig at Devlin and the other guy. What do you think?

Of course I think the series is much better than the movie.

Ok I feel in love with stargate when the movie came out....but the characters lacked depth then.....now with the tv series, we have all and more than we could dream of...

The characters have developed over the seasons and have become so much more than the movie could ever have been....

So if the movie people want to distance themselves then it is their loss......I don't think they realise just what they have lost either!

Don't get me wrong, I think Devlin and Emmerich are brilliant, but they gotta face it SG1 is more funny and more entertaining the the movie. They also sort of repeating that line at the end when they pissed about the show killing off Kawalsky and Feretti even though Ferreti IS ALIVE (Them very dumb) and we see Kawalsky at points *SPOILER* in Point of View and GameKeeper.

So summary, they can go to hell.

I never liked the film, I thought it wasn't as good as the TV series is now, My dad introduced it too me (he's a big scifi fan like me) so I watched and got hooked from day 1, it was soooooo much better than the film and the charcters and their development is better too :D

I agree with Arc, when I watched the film I didn't really like it.
It was my mum who got me into SG1 she was a big fan and was always wanting me to watch some SG1 with her but I always thought it was not really my kinda thing as I was more into Buffy and Angel.
I then ended up watching Children of the Gods and I have never looked back. I love the show and can even say I watch more of SG1 then Buffy or Angel.
So I think those guys can go to hell as SG1 is sooooooo much better and they know it!!!

How I started watching

Basically the tv version is better.

Maybe (to me) that's because I watched that first.
I've always been into Eygptology and ancient history, but I never got around to seeing the film.
I actually started watching stargate because I found the characters interesting and witty, plus, the show was more realistic then "Startrek" because it was based in modern times and therefore there's limits to what humans can do (without alien help).
When I got around to seeing the film I was impressed with the story and the special effects - but the characters (which had attracted me to stargate in the first place) were a bit of a let down.

I'll get off me soapbox now;)

Nicola :D :D

I liked the film; I like the series even better.

And I think it takes much more talent to keep a series going than to put a movie together.

So there.

envy rises its ugly head

ah well, guess I'd spit poison as well if I'd given away the rights on a gem like stargate! I bet mr emmerich (who's not on my list of fav directors) would apply himself a swift kick up his backside if he could.

I was never too fond of the movie - I liked the concept, but it was far too "military" for me (a problem I also had with the series in the beginning), and as much as I love kurt russell, there can only be one jack. liked spader, though. but personally, I think the tv crew and cast will do a better sequel to "stargate" than independece day was!

I couldn't agree with you more.:D

Not only is mr emmerich not a fav director, he certainly isn't a well known one, either (I wonder why?).

Spader's character was interesting - it is one of the few roles in which he has played the good guy.

tv series way better than movie

The character development in the series is second to none. In the movie it was basically not present. This is who they are now let's get on with it.
The only other series that had character development this good was DS9.

Ok so we have a concensus that the movie is not as good as the series.....but we have to be greatful for the movie.....

Whether we liked it or not we have to acknowledge that it sets up a hell of a lot of the back story to the series.....I have friends who started watching the series without watching the movie (this didn't last for long mind you) and they were asking about stuff that they didn't understand.....because it had been explained in the movie and then built on.....

So while yes I agree that the series is better (love RDA and Shanks....yummmmyyyyy!!!!) we still have to be greatful and ackowledge all that we have because of it! Without the movie there would be no SG1

<<gets off her soap box and melts back into the crowd>>

Texane....I think your snake is showing :)

I would counter that Emmerich is well known.....I dont know how many films he's directed but he must be respected enought to get jobs in major motion pictures (esp after Godzilla :( ).

Your remark about Spader is ironic for me as all I have seen is the movies where he is a good guy (mostly his very early stuff).

Okay, my opinion:
I really loved the movie, esp. Spader's Daniel!!!
And when I heard that there would be a series I was disappointed 'cos most series made of great movies were not very good. But when I heard Richard would have the main part I couldn't wait for seeing it and I now love it much more than the movie. Of course a movie and a tv series can't be compared for some reassons. It's clear that a character development never can be so deeply like in a series with 100 episodes.
And I think Richard's O'Neill is much better for a series.
So: I really love the series and I can't understand why Emmerich distances from it. I think it's a huge success and he should be proud that this great series basis on a great movie...:rolly2:
( searches for cover, just in case...;) )

I loved the movie when if first came out. I even rented the movie and by now, have seen it twice on the Sci-Fi channel. I was sooo excited when it became a series, but I didn't have cable then and had to wait a whole year before I started seeing it. Got cable just in time for season 3 :rolly2:

I'm sure the original creators are proud of what they started, but as far as I know, they're not getting anything from the series. Are they?
