Typos

Oh year... seriously bad. I've got fan fic editors who won't let me forget some of the ones I've sent them on a rush last draft.

They're haunt me for years.:dead:

Tell me about it! My spelling is a-atro-atroshious..... terrible!!!!:D

my grade 1 teacher told my mum that my spelling was "ahh....unique" & although it has improuved a bit with University, it still is rather unique at times.

Spelling

And when Bruno, my 'puter, died the last time, I'd forgotten to back up my extra dictionaries. I lost my 'Stargate' spell checker and have to rebuild from scratch.

A serious pain. :dead:

There's a Stargate spellchecker? COOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! :coolyello

I had truly great spelling when I was a kid . . . and then they added spellcheck to my computer, and my brainpower went a little MIA. :blah:

Spellchecker

No... there's the custom spellchecker I built for Word 7 that took about 4 weeks of making sure I had all the proper spellings, cross checking everything with various sites and the set site.

then it went away when Bruno reformated his own hard drive.:dead:

Spell checker

I really wish. rebuilding this is a pain.

I don't know about the Stargate spellchecker, because that's obviously a Rowan original and it's a shame you lost it. I work in computers as a network engineer and have had to restore many lost files for people who forgot to back up and it's easily done!

Rowan, some of the files can be restored by the way, by someone who knows what they're doing. Nearly everything which is accidentally deleted or lost when a computer dies is restorable up to a part. They may be partial files when you get them, but it can be done. Sometimes a technician might have problems if the hard drive has been corrupted by the payload from a virus, but I've known teccies who can even restore files from that.

Getting back to spellcheckers though, don't you find that some of the suggestions the Word spellchecker suggests as replacements are often hilarious and mostly fascinating...... especially suggestions that are made for specific Stargate terminology? I've had many a good laugh over writing a piece!

 :D

Spellcheckers

:p Oh yeah... especially with alien names!

When Bruno bit the Big One, we [the tech and I] were able to recover actually a fair amount of stuff from one of his drives. Lucky for me the one with most of the graphics and my writing. The dictionary went with Windows when it took Office down.

Turned out to me the power supply. It was sending micro-spikes and finially caused my MB to have a siezure and eat the chip. I had menant to upgrade, but not quite like that... I was hoping for more GB's first. But not it's happy with it's AMD/Athlon and 256 RAM. The HD's are coming down so fast, that'll probably be next.

If the printer doesn't bite it first.

The Difference Between Windows NT and a Virus:
One is a nasty, evil piece of cyber garbage foisted off on an innocent victim which is likely to hog his machine's memory, take over his hard drive, mess up his files, and make his life a living hell.

The other you can get by opening the wrong email attachment...

BTW:::

Please excuse the fact I can't spell muself after 0000 local time. It's now 0109.:dead:

Tiredness!

That's okay..... it's 11.34 am in the UK now, so heaven only knows what time it is where you are!

By the way...... I just have to ask..... why Bruno?

I call mine 'that bloody piece of crap....' But seriously its a good piece of kit that I built and upgrade myself.

My son and I build computers and we fixed one not so long ago that was getting spikes from a duff power supply. When we got into it, I was checking the various components we had already removed and my son was checking the power supply out. He wasn't touching it at the time, because the power was going through it, when all of a sudden it blew up and because his leg was touching the case, he got thrown across the room. He was not a happy little man....

I'm pleased you have a teccie to help out, that's good. Sounds like a good setup you have, but if you're 'death' on hard drives maybe you need to consider regular replacement if you're able, and large hard drives perhaps, there are some which run at very fast speeds these days. I'm sure that you and your teccie know your system though!

:p :D

Of thing computerish...

I'm not sure why 'Bruno'. I've seriously considered after his last resurection renaming him 'MacGyver' but I'm afraid to push my luck until it get him a Swiss Army Knife of his own [Right now he has his 'Holy Relic of St. Vidicon of Cathode', a small yellow handled flat blade scredrive with a pocket clip. From an old SF book called 'A Canticle for Lebowitz'].

I've got several techie friends, but this last time Bruno went into the professional ICU as he'd gone past my friends ideas of what might have gone wrong. I'm not as much 'death' on HD's, I just tend to overuse my OS and try to push my software/hardware into doing more than it's originally made for. I took two years out of health care and got a two year degree in 'computer programming/system's analysis] and can write vast amounts of bad COBOL. Went to work for the State, got called up for Desert Storm came back and found my job phased out and went back into health care. Now I just get frustrated my computers on my own time.

I need massively more HD space... only have a 12 and a 20 GB right now. I've got two more slots on top of the 3&1/3, the LS120, A CD burner and CD-DVD but would rather either work with a removable HD system or build a house server with a HD tower. My husband and I are LAN'd right now and it's be nice to shove the programs over to the server and use my HD for data space. I can put the ZIP back in line, but Bruno's looking like a octopuss right now as is. :p

Ah well... now, when I can get the Veteran's Administration system to increase my pension so I can afford all this... <sigh>

LOL! I have 2 computers and a laptop, and one of them is always on the blink. I can't tell you what I call mine, there may be children present!:D

Why Bruno

What comes to mind as a time I've heard of a Bruno I think was on an ep of MaxHeadroom. And it might have been a sophistated computer, too. Or, the guy who was working it. I'll have to check my tapes. The ep was about some rebel group wanting to bring down the world's computer system.

sounds like you have some fun stuff to play with. Your's sounds a bit like my computer. Like some sort of Borg of computer with latched on stuff. I'm using a Compaq 366 with a 4Gig and a 40Gig and a CDRW and 320MB RAM. I ran out of PCI slots, had to abandon my LAN card and scanner to put the second HD and firewire card in. And when my Win 98se tanked, I put on Windows 2000 Pro and with a 366 it's seriously underpowered to run. I really want to do video but its crashing big time.

Tapes

You have tapes of Max Headroom?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oh My! You are a Goddess!:D

I'm impressed!

Max Headroom was definitely a cult classic, but it was shown on UK Channel 4 during a period where I was too poor to own a video, my ex and I used to watch it all the time.

I'd forgotten about that 'Bruno'!

:D :rolly2: :D

You use a Compaq 366 with all that stuff on it. You're a brave person........

;)

:eek4: A few. Live and Direct! Maybe 6 or 8 episodes. Will there be VCRs at Gatecon? I'm betting half my rolling bag might be full of tapes.

I think I have a few Dark Skies, Sliders, Space A&B (end of season when it rocked), Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Logan's Run, Lots of Blakes Seven. there has to be a few I've forgotten.

Add a DVD to the lounge and we could have Space 1999 flashbacksfor people who desire real action. :flash: also, Quantium Leap pilot and Farscape

Hey, has anyone done a FarScape/SG-1 cross over fic? Imagine O'Neill and John Crideon <sp> beating back the nasties and cracking jokes... Can we survive D'argo and Teal'c meeting?

Con

I'll have to check into the VCR situation.:rolly2:

Let's see... I've got all but one BattleStar Galactica [what can I say... I was young and liked Starbuck], all of S:AAB, the 1st two seasons of 'Due South' [looking for the rest] all of MacGyver [but pretty beat up and all of Rick's movies], all of Sentinel, all of Bab-5 [in some incarnation] and Crusades. I'm actually just beginning to build my tape library.

I could see some serious room parties happening. :} ;)

Don't know about a Farscape/SG-1 X-over. I'm kinda fussy about crosses... I want them to be plausable. Like X-files and Gate work becasue they're within the same time frame believably - without having to go through a lot of contortions to get there. Gate and Star Trek you have to bend something somewhere, although Next Gen and DS9 had a thing for tempotal travel. that might work.

Although I would dearly love to see John and Jack going head to head. Alpha male to alpha male plus scientist.

Oh yeah!

Um, how is it not working that SG-1 can go across the galaxy to the FarScape space? John C. got there by wormhole. FS is set nearly now. They used a Space Shuttle to launch Farscape 1. Surely gate travel to FS area more plauable than Mulder and Scully running around the SGC.

Like I said on my other post, Aryun Sun meeting Jack is just freezing my brain. Imagine Jack letting lose a one liner mispronouncing some alien word with her around and being knocked on his ass with a pantak jab!
