Got a bit of bad news for you guys.:dead:
Seems season 6 of Stargate SG-1 may not go ahead as previously romoured.
STARGUIDE has previously reported that Season Six has been given a green light by MGM, though no public announcement has yet been issued. While we believe our source to be reliable, only time will reveal when MGM will make an official announcement on the show's future.
Go to www.scifiguide.net/stargate/news for the full story.

Terrible news huh?
If I hear more I'll post it when I get it.

MGM...

I know... MGM posted it on thier Gate website this afternoon.

It does strike me though, that nothing has been decided, or at least that MGM are willing to make Season 6, but Showtime may not be willing to buy it. The delay could possibly be because MGM are in discussions with other networks. This presumably would take time.

I still think it's a little 'previous' for everyone to go into sackcloth and ashes don't you? All of this doom, gloom and despondency doesn't really help.

It doesn't come under the heading of 'terrible news' to me... but perhaps you read the Sci Fi guide article differently?

Direct quote courtesy of Sci Fi Guide

Hank Cohen, president of MGM's television entertainment division said. "All of us at MGM are extremely grateful for your outpouring of support," he wrote. "While we are closer, the job is not yet done. But, please know that your cards and letters have definitely gone along way toward making Season Six a possibility. We hear you!"

That to me sounds encouraging and we should all keep writing.

;) :)

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

S6

I'm not doom saying, just commenting that MGM put that info on their site.

I'm hanging back waiting to see what will happen justas much as the rest of the folks and still writing my letters to MGM, etc.

The web site for "SOS = Save Our SG-1" is:
saveSG1@yahoogroups.com

Actually, it wasn't aimed at you Rowan, or anyone in particular really.

And based on what has happened before in threads when people panic over such things and very often don't go to the websites to read for themselves, putting the quote from Hank Cohen directly into the thread seemed the sensible thing to do. Maybe it'll stop people from worrying unnecessarily.

Or maybe it won't....... because maybe people just like to have knee jerk reactions.

It's not a form of emotional reaction that I enjoy experiencing these days.....

:)

I agree with Anni.
I don't think the news is bad and even if Showtime don't want it, some other company like the Sci fi channel will take over it. This means we the loyal stargate fans would be able to see more eps of stargate.

Concerns

I'm not really concerned who gets it: Showtime or Sci-Fi. It's MGM's call. It's just the call is slow in coming and I hate last minute things...

... especially when you're 'working' a Con.

I just wish we could get some official confirmation of a 6th series soon!:(

Just to MGM or Showtime (or who ever else responsible's) ears will do me!:D

Yeah like nic has said I just really wish that someone would confirm if we are going to get another season or not. To have a sixth season would be great:rolly2: if we don't then its not the end of the world...but I just think it would be nice to know.
As one day its all "we are having a new season" then the next its all "no we are not" (and thats not a dig at anyone)

And I for one would just like to know either way:D

Know what you mean Pam. Im a patient, understanding person, but sometimes I just get a little.. :angryfire
I just don't like dangling I guess. (But thats my prob, not MGM's or anybodies)!!:D

we're not the only people. they want to start at least having an idea of how to end the season and the writers need to know if they need to start wrapping things up or let them draw out for another year. it's gotta be frustating for the cast and crew too. they're eihter out of work around the end of the year, or have another year to go

i have a funny feeling there are things in the works. and networks are notoriously slow. i work for an nbc affiliate, they have no idea what movies they're airing past august i think, no real idea when the new shows will premiere (it's the week of sept 17th but some shows will undoubtedly have 2 hour premieres which means shuffling). and this is just two months away.

the bigger they are the longer it takes them to make up their minds. we just gotta be patient is all.

Mailing packages this weekend...

I'm having a little party tonight to introduce some more new fans to SG-1 via the DVD boxed set, and am providing cards, pens, envelopes, stamps... markers, empty Kleenex boxes and the addresses from SOS!

Then, a trip to a few local post offices on Saturday morning...

The MGM website sounded to me like further encouragement in the form of snail-mailed letters and things might be the best course of action.

I agree that the sooner *any* decision is made the better, though. Last minute shifts in networks, plotlines and writing can really wreak havoc on things... c'mon, say it with me: bee fiiiiiive.

Sigh.

Party

Adele, what a great idea! Can I post it to the SOS list?:rolly2:

The more the merrier... PARTY ON!

Sure, post away... the more mail that reaches MGM and Showtime and Stargate Productions etc the better! That goes for new fans, too!

Just note that I *don't* recommend serving Abydonian Roast Beast to newbies!
