nah, not really. However, if the day comes and I'm face to face with him, I'll deny ever writing this post!;) ;)

A quote

Read a quote somewhere a long time ago. Irish, I think.

"Tis better to go through life beliving in God, die and find there is none than die and meet Him face to face."

What about "false gods"? :laugh2: ;) :D

Polythiestic.... that's a word I'm gonna have to look up! :D ;)

I think beliving in any sort of God is the stupidest thing humans have ever invented, (Except Pokemon).
To all those God belivers on this forum, (Poor guys), please dont flame me.:angryfire

I know for as a fact that there is no god. :p
If you do belive in a god, then when you die you'll be in for a shock. (Oh, I forgot. You cant feel shocked when you die cos theres nothing after death).:dead:

HA HA HA........ Oh dear *wipes tears of laughter from face* Oh dear........ and you are very entitled to think that if you want to, why should anyone flame you for having that particular belief (or non-belief!)

You're probably right in that. God is primarily a societal invention and concept. A method of control over the population, and originally a reason for primitive humans to understand why the sun came up and went down, and why the crops grew and the seasons changed. After all science didn't exist in those times. Many of the original religious explanations for these have now been overturned, unless of course, you belong to the Flat Earth Society!!!

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed, the soul of soulless conditions, the sentiment of a heartless world... it is the opium of the people.

Although you might be able to substitue TV and Movies for religion these days!

Yeah, science has pretty much explain the physical world to us (with exceptions to ghosts etc...)
We're not like the ancient cultures who thought:
"How did that crop grow?... I know! A god must have done it! Now lets go sacrifice some baby lambs!" ;)

But although we can understand most things, we still have this nagging problem about "why do we exist?" and do we have a soul.

Anni's right (in my opinion) that religion is a way to control, just take the 10 commandments which basically set out what is right and wrong. In saying that though, I don't think most people's moral standards are because of the bible these days, but rather respect for our fellow human beings.

I'll get off my soapbox now ;) :D

Exactly, as I haven't heard any 'scientific' explainations for the meaning of life, I don't think we should all be quick to rule out the possibility of a God, or someone or something which is greater than us, someone/thing who started the whole deal of creation, someone who also probably created many other beings like us in other galaxies ( sorry, I had to add that, being a sci fi fan and all).

But even what I said in my last post don't answer the reason why he created us.

I suppose we'll only find out when we die, or will we...

Maybe the reason why is actually to discover the reason why?

...I don't know.:D

Yeh, but it's weird though.
I live for the here and now. I'm young and have no consideration for what's gonna happen when I died.
I'm quite happy for settling for a life in this realm, but you don't wanna die and be confronted by some big dude with a beard who's like "well, you didn;t believe in my so p*ss off!

I don't know.

When I think of us, in relation to Stargate, it would be weird if it was like Thor, and we have this god who is actually an alien!

Maybe God/our creator is an alien!

Maybe we're just part of a wierd experiment that he/she/it is doing!

Maybe....

Or maybe, there is no god, per se. Maybe there is just a source of power in the universe that manipulates and harmonises matter to create planets and the environment for life and then moves on...

I certainly do not believe that there is some venerable old chap out there sitting on a throne in judgement on us all. There are billions of galaxies and planets out there, and the creator of the universe is going to be there just waiting for the end of OUR particular little corner of it?

I don't think so somehow.

So if there is an ultimate source of power, then I suppose we would consider it to be very alien indeed.

Of course, this is just my view, and if people wish to be believe in the venerable old guy theory and be afraid in case he's going to face you all with your misdeeds, then go right ahead, you have that perogative! Personally, I would hate to go through life being frightened that any mistake or error in judgement I made would be thrown back at me when I died.

I expect that according to those who do believe, I shall burn merrily in hell. I think we make hell for ourselves on earth.

:p :alienooh: ;)

lol!

But don't everyone wonder wht there is for us after we die? Do we just disappear, or is there some kind of life after that?

I believe in a god. That's the way I was raised and have decided to continue it. But what about reincarnation? I'd like to be born again as a girl to a wealthy, loving, wealthy family. Did I say wealthy? Failing that, I'd like to come back as the pampered kitten of a wealthy family. :kisses:
