Why we love Daniel
I think you are deliberately baiting us Daniel fans. And I think you must be very young, I just get that impression. Very young people don't reason out their hates or dislikes, they just tell you I hate you!
Well, being a fervent Daniel fan I would like to explain , yes explain, why we love/admire him.
1. He is brilliant, as much or more than Carter. Has 2 PHDs, speaks 20 odd languages, etc. He was the one who deciphered how the Stargate works, all those government scientists/experts and yes, Carter too, couldn't do it. And believe me, many women find intelligence a very SEXY quality.
2. He is a man who has been touched repeatedly by tragedy yet have overcome that and has been able to trust mankind (and sometimes alienkind). Can there be something more awful than watching both your parents die before your eyes when you are 8 years old? And having your only living relative abandon you? Yet he hasn't been blinded by hatred, despair, etc.
3. He is caring and sensitive. Hey, just in Asencion he asked
Jack repeatedly about Carter, he had to ask again because Jack didn't answer his question, seemed more interested in disproving the alien's existence.
4. He is loyal to his friends, won't give up on them. Both Sam and Jack are alive because of him. Hammond gave up on them on Solitudes and he kept on trying, deducting that there was another Stargate , and finding out where Jack and Sam where. They would have been frozen popsicles, and nobody would even know where they died if it were not for Dr. J.
5. His integrity is beyond compare. He has saved SG1 and SGC from making terrible mistakes, like in The Other Side and with the Enkarans.
6. He is a brave man. Hey, he saved Jack's life in Abydos. Come to think about it, shouldn't the military man had saved the civilian, that would have been more reasonable. Yet he saved a comparatively unknown man, who did not care for him much.
7. He is more than brilliant, his intuitive genius ranges far beyond, even Carter's. In the pilot he was the one who postulated that the Stargate led to multiple planets while Carter kept insisting that she tried different permutations and it did not work. And Daniel said that the planets must have moved in all those thousands of years. I always thought that astrophysic Carter should have deducted that. They NEEDED Daniel, they still do.
8. He is a very brave man. Hey, he is as brave as these military types. When he was shot by that blast weapon in Apophis' ship he did not cry and moan. Jack gets hurts and he moans like a child (remember when he got blasted in the leg).
9. Just remember what Jack said in Fire and Water. "Daniel made this place happen. He was our voice, our conscience." That's a lovely and TRUE thing to say.
10. He acts like a real archeologist, not like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, he knows his stuff. He seems a real person, a real archeologist.
11. He has become a very good soldier, surely a better soldier than Jack or Teal'c could be good archeologists, linguists, etc.
12. He is certainly not weak, not physically, see #8, not emotionally (to have survive the death of parents, wife and remain sane and good), not mentally, not anything. Hey look at those biceps.
13. On top of all that he is a very handsome, sexy man, which makes for the frosting on top of the cake, on top of everything else.
I am sure I am forgetting more of Daniel's unique qualities and accomplishments, this is just a beginning.
You are entitled to your opinions but at least reason them out.
Oh, and by the way, regarding your previous complaint that Daniel did not care for Sam in Entity, he was the one who prevented Jack from blowing that computer when Sam was inside. And Sam has displayed sometimes a total disregard for Daniel. In the Enkanaran situation she kept reminding Jack that he had few minutes to blow the ship, like she was urging him, come on, blow it (with Daniel inside). Impatient, wasn't she? And in the First Ones, she was in a hurry to bury those men, while Daniel's life hung in the balance. Five minutes could have been critical, for all they knew, Daniel could have been eaten, dismembered, etc. And here she was saying, hey let's waste precious minutes burying these men (they could have done that after rescuing Daniel).
